Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 你的名字我的姓氏 (Your Names, My Surname)
Katherine "Kat" and Brandon didn't care two hoots about holding their wedding celebrations a week into the seventh lunar month, and on National Day to boot. According to Kat, her mother pooh-poohed the notion of the date being unlucky to hold big events by saying, "China is holding the Olympics for goodness sakes! So how can it be unlucky?" Well said.
I felt comfortable with Kat the moment I met up her for coffee to discuss her wedding plans. During our meeting, I asked her to give me an insight into what both of them are like. This is what she wrote.
"Alright, where shall I begin? By the 9th August, Brandon and I have been together for 8 years and 4 days (he calculated!) And what makes a relationship last so long, many might ask, would have to be our very different yet almost identical personalities. Different: Brandon is very mild tempered and it will take a lot to upset him. He is extremely neat and organized; every single contact is itemized and file has a specific folder."
I chuckled when I read the above. It gets better...
"On the other hand, my office table is in a permanent mess and all my files are in “My Document”. Brandon believes in making plans and investing for the future; I don’t even know how much my monthly pay is."
Here's the part that moved me.
"Nonetheless, we are fundamentally identical. We are highly driven, independent and self-reliant. Brandon and I did not quarrel or argue at all during the wedding preparation. We divided the tasks to be settled, settle our own stuff and meet every weekend to update each other. For example, he will not question me why I chose “A Little Dream”; he will have prefect faith that “A Little Dream” is the best choice based on my critical evaluation ☺ I once read from a horoscope book that we (Leos and Scorpios) make a powerful team, and I truly believe so."
Kat goes on to explain why she chose two of the songs:
你的名字我的姓氏 (Your Name, My Surname) - As described in the song, our relationship is like a 平静旅程 (smooth journey). Brandon is not very romantic, but consistently gentle and thoughtful. He will not do dramatic things to win my favor, but through little non-imposing ways. For example, after so many years together, he will still volunteer to cook for me! It makes being in his presence very comfortable and contented.
Butterfly Kisses is especially dedicated to my parents. We are a very traditional family and therefore do not hug or kiss every morning. Nonetheless we are very tight as a family, and my brother and I respect my parents immensely for everything that they have done for us.
Knowing so much about Kat and Brandon made it that much easier for Bevlyn and I to infuse our singing with emotion and passion. To Kat: thank you so much for your generosity. To Brandon: thank you for so much for your compliments after the wedding! To the both of you: congratulations once again, and may you both enjoy an unfettered journey in life together!
