Hui Bing's thoughts: Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
I always enjoyed performing at One Rochester and this time is no different. The outdoor concept, beautifully decorated pavilion, lush landscaping, casual setting, buffet line, all paved the way for a night of fun, romance and mingling with friends and loved ones. It also helped that I had two very talented musicians to accompany me that night - Feri with his very 'cheem' (Singlish for profound) jazz chords and Shoujie, a young, musically-gifted lawyer-to-be.
It was a night of unexpected moments. Usually, the bride or groom would enlist the help of the band to serenade their other half. However, Ian needed no assistance from us as he more than able to do the job.
First, Ian arranged for Gloria to be seated in front of the pavilion. Then, he whipped out a guitar and belted Can't Take My Eyes Off You. His performance was filled with gusto and conviction; I believed every word he sang. What happened next was no surprise: I could see Gloria dabbing her eyes away. Way to go!
Besides the bouquet toss for the ladies, the single men also got a chance to catch the bouquet that night. There was much laughter and good-natured name-calling as the eligible bachelors gathered, albeit reluctantly, to the centre pavilion.
Another memorable part of the dinner was when we saw a wedding mascot for the first time! A friend of the couple willingly donned on the costume of Strawberry Shortcake to give out wedding favours and take pictures with the children. It was a unique and fun way to end the night.
