PS. Also the official uniforms are made of that shitty light-weight basketball shirt fabric. That's all shiny and strange? My vote's for getting it printed - I'm sure a basic screenprint would do the job. I'll see if I can have a look around for quotes.

Also Als said something about aluminium etching for the badges. She's on board too, but I'm pretty sure she wants misc. characters rather than canon (for the reasons stated above, i.e., it's really hard to crossplay when your character isn't effeminate and animated).

I'm actually... Okay with that fabric, it's the fabric they actually wear. Printing it might end up expensive cos you can only cut ONE WAY to sew that up. What would you be thinking about printing it on?

I'm actually totally happy to buy a pin. I mean, is buying an official star trek gold pin that bad? Considering it will be much cheaper than going to get it cut ourselves. But I'll go with what ever's cheaper.

OKAY where are you looking for the official costumes? 'Cause the only ones I've found are seriously made of the stuff they wear playing basketball in the US, which is like 100000000x not the fabric in the movie. WHERE BE YOUR SOURCE? I'd want to go with the same fabric we used for the Avatar costumes - it's sturdy, with a very slight stretch and costs like $2/metre. I think it's a form of suiting, if I remember correctly, but I'd have to check.

...BUT THEIR PINS ARE SILVER D: D: Apparently it can be v. v. cheap (they do it at the uni or something?) but I'll ask Als.

I'm pretty sure the ones I've been looking at are This dude's type
which is yes, a much flimsier fabric than I would like.

Theirs looks like a delusted Satin Which I frankly cannot afford. And embroidered satin edging. Nggggh. Spandex might be okay but IS IT THE RIGHT COLOUR? We need to go fabric hunting. But first find out how much is printing.

Maybe I should make Spock's black uniform? Cos that would be HOT.

But I like to be cohesive and instantly recognisable...

And SPOCKS IS GOLD. HE'S A COMMANDER. Or I dunno IS IT *squints*

BUT IF ITS CHEAP TO CUT IT OUR SELVES LETS GO FOR IT. !
