Animania Sunday A MILLION YEARS LATER +1

AND ON SUNDAY!

See, originally me and arlo_arleh were going to put no effort in and actually take a year off doing a shitty sunday cosplay Purely for the lolz, BUT NO. Arleh had the brilliant (or deranged) idea for us to go as Japanese Street fashion GANGURO Girls. For those uninitiated, that's the crazy japanese girls who want to be tan califorians and than themselves to the point of crisp charcoal, doll themselves up with white make up, bleached hair and fluro fluro fluro (and then some hawaiian lais).

Hands down, THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING WE HAVE EVER DONE.

We looked everywhere for dark make up, as dark as possible. In fact at one point I felt kind of indirectly offended that black women have NO make up range at all in Australia. Everything was either biege or sand, and only Maybelline had any kind of dark-skinned concealer that would work. We got the super dark mousse, spending a hilarious afternoon skulking in priceline darkening our hands to test it before we bought it. Drawing much concerned looks.

Then on the day, we slavered it all over ourselves. It went on pretty smoothly on my skin, since it's so naturally oily.

Note I got CHEAP and lazy, and reused Arleh's Asuka wig. GANGURO ASUKA. Woo.

Arleh, however had some trouble, especially since I mucked her up by telling her to apply ACTUAL tan, which ruined the texture of the make up. She then went off to have a big cry and sulk along with frantic dabbing.

And topped it with the bimboest wig evar.

We totally underestimated how long this would take us to put on and arrived at Animania 3 hours late at around noon (WILL WE NEVER BE ON TIME? EVER?) where upon Catty and Tsubaki, in full panic, defcon 1 mode over WCS, were running around outside the auditorium on the street screaming THE HEAD THE HEAD sfjysdfsjdf.

So we left them be for they were busy.

Also because they totally didnt recognise us first off. Due to said ridiculousness. The amount of double takes we got on Sunday were hilarious.

Note Arleh's tiny little black poodle dog for that EXTRA level of hilarious retardedness for this.

And my awesome nails!
Where I spent all morning doing my left hand in whee rainbowwwwwwws. Then saw my right and went D: since it is beyond my powers to be left handed with nail polish.

There were some complaints that Animania this year didn't have much food compared to previosu year's convenience of MacDonalds and other junk next to the townhall.

Arleh looks so scary here. Like a tanned shark. She can tell you TAKOYAKI IS THE KING OF FOODS. BELIEVE IT.

There was also giant pocky running around. Sadly inedible. Though we tried.

WCS Kenshin waiting in line with us for the king of foods, looking adorable.

And Anna with some PORN.

Tsubaki and Catty, after they finally found their head.

glorfindel and her other half looking snazzy and capy.

The crazy Dollfie cosplay contest. What amused me was that this contest's prizes were worth MORE than the actual cosplay. Was somewhat dumbfounded by this because WHY. WHYYY.

Not that tiny Dollfie Cloud isn't adorable and sexy and probably scarily anatomically correct. There better be a Sephiroth next year to match it. There better. *shakes fist*

Seriously this entire conreport is a fruits magazine.

You were tricked into viewing this!

Now for MIDAIR.

I am a fat fluro pig sailing throughout the air lol.

Arleh tried for dignity by putting her shoes aside and FAILED MISERABLY.

THE MERCHANDISE:
I've been noticing a slow downhill drop of quality of products at Animania. Used to be that's the place to BE to get your crazy anime related stuff. Now there didn't seem to be anything worthwhile, except for the beautiful dudes at Pinin who gave us a discount... mostly because the Mokona I wanted was stolen and bought by someone else. I got a Pen Pen plushie instead, thus fulfilling my need for a plushie at every convention.

Everywhere else though had appalling knock offs like:

Yikes yo. That's one terribly pirated Cloud. My Cloud on a Bike figurine whimpers in knowledge of his down-syndrome existing plastic twin.

KARAOKE:

We tried hard to get to karaoke since it IS Sunday Chillout session and usually that meant a free for all of easy karaoke action. Except when we got there, we were greeted with the hilarious competition decider of the karaoke guys getting ALL the remaining contestants, because of time contraints, to sing the same song, all at once, in two big clumps around one mike.

The sound that came from that was like a dying beast with ten mouths beating itself in the sun with its torn off limbs.

Me and Arleh seriously went: What on earth is this buttfuckery.

If it got that desperate, maybe it was time to wrap the karaoke comp early?

COSPLAY!

WCS was an amazing emotional thrill ride. Backstage was insane. We sneaked in because we felt nosy and wanted to offer our support to the teams, and I was frankly surprised no one kicked us out at any point. It's not like you could say OH LOOK, THOSE FLURO GIRLS FIT IN PERFECTLY. They BLEND, LIKE NINJAS.

Catty and Tsubaki had SUCH intricate costumes. Though Drama follows thems like the plague. Catty (Ed)'s spear was broken backstage by a responsible party, I won't point fingers y'all know who it was. Caused major panic all around.

Meanwhile I was gawking at the STUPENDOUS Going Merry the other team had. Me and Arleh had been considering this idea too, except as a puppet theatre with both of us inside the ship.

But NO WAI would we have done such an amazing job as THIS for it.

LOOKET THE TINY PLUSHIE TREES.

In the meantime I slipped myself into something a little sluttier:

Porn is fashion forward, yo.

I really enjoyed all the WCS skits, especially the Death Note groups for the effort that went into the video, AND the costumes.

The Rem and Ryuk were mind blowingly awesome.

The WCS Tsubasa Group had this AWESOME light up staff. I marvelled at how they wired that. Light features always awes me. Since it never works for me.

Asham's Sangokushi costume was super smexy too and totally deserved the Bankai win.

And of course, Catty and Tsubaki WON THE GOLD, Causing everyone to break down in a mass waterfall of tears. At one point, I was afraid there might form an instant flood on the main stage as everyone misted up and Catty was crying, crying, crying as they announced the winners and then there was a huge torrent of screams and a mad rush to the stage for hugs. I've always believed they could do it! They deserved every bit of that win and worked so very hard for it, you guys better ROCK it in Japan. Represent yo!

After Animania, the festival ended with an anticlimatic squish. The sound of my brain hitting the $20 parking metre, which we wasted when the gate was totally UP on the way out...

I had tons of fun as always. And speaking from a completely biased view, I honestly don't know what people DO at these things when they don't cosplay anymore since we're such hardcore costumers these days.

... Though I was geared up for cardboard caterpillar racing which once again WASN'T HELD! Was heart broken. I wanted to lose my dignity by rolling myself along the ground in a roll of cardboard dammit. WHY CAN'T YOU LET ME LIIIIVE ANIMANIA? WHY???

In anycase, afterwards we went for a delicious dinner at Fujiya where I scabbed off absolutely everyone's plates, and was faintly amused that we, as an anime crowd were pretty unanimously broke.

And we did this STILL IN GANGURO GEAR, despite everyone else changing into normal clothes.

There was a hilarious moment when me and Arleh were walking down and a guy PULLED HIS GIRLFRIEND away from our walking path. I lolled.

SO. To celebrate Catty and Tsubaki's win,

We could only ever really end the night with GANGURO!AL.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And pretty soon I shall have the Making Of Haku dragon progress report up soon too. Phew. Con reporting is hard yo.
