HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

Jan 02, 2008 23:27

With every year I feel like retail has ruined the holidays and New Years for me. It just doesn't feel special anymore. Though otehrwise it was an okay end to an otherwise appalling year in RL. PLEASE let this one be better.

This year I must:
1) Get a better goddamn job or die. Or quit. Possibly in that order.
2) Finish cosplays and win. WINNNNNN.
3) Try harder to socialise. I'm starting to think I just don't like people and should invest in some method to live as a hermit.
4) Get a career worthy job. Last year of Uni and I'm at the stage where I am SCARED. I could go for another extra year and do a thesis, but I am afraid it would be useless, unless I write an awe inspiring script/novel/non-fiction book which will take be all of nowhere.
And also, 5) Find love. It's time I got back into the game without sabotaging myself with indifference.

What's funny is that all of these outcomes are equally unlikely.

In other news:

YAY YULETIDE.

HOT FUZZ FIC. There isn't enough YAY in the world to explain the feeling of \o/ I have at seeing the deliciously long list of fics that have turned out for this little fandom. I love them all, and read them with sparkly eyes of wonder and joy. You should too.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Fics!!! It's ONLY during Yuletide that fics for this come out, so every year I look forward to it, and I'm never disappointed.
My two favourite ones:
Things We Can't Untie: Or, Gay Perry and Gay Harry and the Gay Jewels of Nabooti by Jeudi. (NC-17) How Harry and Perry totally realise their forbidden love for one another, and then lived happily ever after having loads of gay sex yadda yadda yadda etc. Kind of.
The Other Line by Giddygeek. (R)
Tantalising Quote: "Christ, I hate you," Perry said viciously. "Why didn't you go back to New York--why didn't I fire you--no. The question is, why didn't I let someone kill you when I had the chance?"
"You don't hate me," Harry said. "You don't. Harmony said she loved me but the minute the old man died, she was all, 'It's time for me to go home, Harry,' and 'I need a fresh start, Harry,' and 'Get off my leg, Harry.' And now she's gone."

The Prestige fic has also been rollin' in. I still don't have the hothothot threesome I wished for with all my heart, but there is, instead, delicious plot.
Duplicity by Lemuel Cork. The two magicians are both dead, yet both still alive, and now they both want what only one can have.
Toil and Trouble by Lemuel Cork. What if Borden had broken the glass in time?

A random HP rec:

The Simple Joy of Living by anon for hd_holidays
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione, Ginny/Viktor
Summary: When Viktor is attacked, Harry and Draco work together to find the culprit.
Rating: R
Deathly Hallows compliant? Yes
Why: I'm amazed at people who can slot in the DH canon and still produce things that are giggle worthy, slashy, plotty and other -y (read: eee) words while keeping everyone delightfully in character. Or as in character as I really want them to be. This has the witty, snarky and petulantly narcissistic Draco fandom has fallen in love with, coupled awkwardly, and yet, still so effectively with socially-denser-than-a-brick, yet, strangely appealing in that suicidally Noble way, Harry Potter. It takes a cliche and keeps it funny and enjoyable. Draco and Harry pretend to be lovers for the paparazzi while Fighting Crime. They find True Love. Great holiday reading.

Let's all turn our faces toward the new year and breathe in the SWEET TANG OF OPPORTUNITY.
