A little meta thought about reccing:
Being such a widely travelled fanperson, I've found the most annoying thing when I'm looking for fic is when reccers rate the fics they recommend, whether it's an out of ten score, or some kind of extra mark that tells me that they find this fic extra special, or even extra extra special. Unconsciously I think, what's wrong with the other fics then? Are they just average? Why even bother telling me about them if they didn't blow your mind? My eye then pin points all the 'highly rated' fic and only read those. Sure, these fics ARE generally good, but when I click on ones the reccer didn't like as much, my initial opinion of the fic also goes down too. Instead of starting on zero, they begin at negative one. And then, WHO KNOWS what fics I'm missing?
Yes, the rating system is all up to personal opinion, but aren't ALL recs a matter of personal opinion? It's easy enough to judge taste. There are some writers whom I adore whose taste in reading material never matches up with what I think is great, some writers are in the exact same page with me, reccers who are hit and miss, and then there are the reccers who never miss a beat and any link I click on pours forth gold from the internet. The latter group are always the people who find it easier to say they love the fic rather than put a number or a marker next to it. Then I can decide for myself whether the fic is sheer wonder or simple amusement, rather than going in with a lower opinion. Because if it's truly bad, I know it wouldn't be on a rec list at all. You can have favourite fic/author lists or top 5 etc, but when doing general rec page format, please dont rate the fics, give me reasons instead. This is my cry out to the poor, low involvement fics that aren't super, but still deserve the love which comes from brightening my day in small, incremental amounts.
Kind of old news, but NEWS never the less. The Shuji to Akira kind.
Kame photographing Yamapi behind the scenes. The MUSIC. Time After time!? Cherish The Love?! Theirs is a super 80s love.
Shuji plays table tennis against a kid. Why are Japan's kids so talented?
Learn the Seishun Amigo dance from Kame and Yamapi. Watching Maki-chan learn it in her Nobuta outfit is love.
One assessment down. I will work hard for the next one. I won't slack off, become uncommunicative, antisocial and forsake life for the sake of the next assessment. I will bloody well PARTAY and stop myself becoming a person suffering from depression because I have JPOP DAMMIT. ONE CANNOT BE DEPRESSED WITH ARASHI. *resolute* I am now going to strengten this resolve with a healthy dose of yaoi_daily and Bambino. Living life to the fullest. Must buy milk so I don't have any regrets in the future. Like more food poisoning.
