I feel like I've regressed somewhat, though it might be what I have secretly theorised as the Path Of The Fangirl, you go from newbie to crazy het troll to mild shounen ai liker (because wow, ain't them boys pretty and gosh all the females in this series makes me wish I wasn't of my gender) to slasher to hardcore slasher then oddly to being a gen ficcer... and the point is, at the end, it seems we all revert to shameful filthy het in the end because once you can carve a relationship out without the gender bias, and apply all you have learned of people and relationships to a het relationship you can probably get gold. In short 3/4 good fics I've read recently have been shamefully het. I don't know if it's just me, or somehow, the universe is finally balancing out.

Pairing: Diana/Bruce Wayne or Wonderwoman x Batman
Rating: PG-13
Why: I miss traditional Harlequinn Romances like this. An arranged marriage between Bruce Wayne and Diana may seem like the most OVERUSED story device in the world, except deep down, you know you'll click just because it's an arranged marriage between Wonder Woman and Batman, with the extra spice of Diana having no idea who exactly she's married. This lifted me back to the days where I could be enthralled by such simple, yet brilliant story telling. It have something to do with Diana being so perfectly and utterly in character, in a way that doesn't just reduce her to the busty lesbian Amazon (though that's awesome in its own way too), but it actively gives her thoughts, motivations and a world within which she operates that I find utterly charming.

Pairing: Mamoru x Usagi (or for those poor dubbies, thats Tuxedo Mask aka Endymion x Sailor Moon aka Serenity)
Rating: PG
Summary: After an accident separates them for centuries, Endymion has to prove he is Serenity's equal.
Why: I know you're thinking holy god, she has completely fallen off the horse, she's reading SAILOR MOON FIC WHUT, and in a way it's true. Sailormoon is the het fandom to rule them all, it set the standards for shoujo romance, but seeing that's the case, the fanfiction usually fails for me. I would stick to canon 99% of the time, but even then, the canon is horribly fantastical. This fic however, manages to add a little realism into the fantasy setting of Neo Tokyo, making Mamoru and Usagi real people in their own archetypal ways while still maintaining all the elements that made old school shoujo great. I love the purple prose in this, the 'classic' feel that I associate with all fics written during the golden age of Sailor Moon. This fic feels like one of the fics that SET the cliches rather than follow it, and you know it because even after all these years, it hasn't lost its lustre or its quality.
And back to your usual crackish slasher programming...
A Hikago fic that defies all explanation

Rating:PG-13
Why: The LAST, absolute LAST thing you could ever imagine was a Hikaru No Go Fic, with vampires. It is the oldest cliche, yet I still find it amazing how these two completely different things can work together in a fic. Hikaru is a Vampire. What makes this refreshing is that this simple plot device isn't completely overblown as I've seen in other Character turned vampire fics where said character becomes a sort of emo superman. This fic manages to hold together the quiet, joyful feel of Hikago, and most importantly remembers that ANYTHING in this fandom is never about the sex or the relationships or even the characters. It's about the Go. But besides all of this brilliant stuff, I have to rec it for sheer audacity for pairing Hikago and VAMPIRES. You love eet. I know.
Harry Potter And The Eagle Of Truthiness by Christine Morgan
FANDOM: HARRY POTTER X THE COLBERT REPORT CROSSOVER
Why: My God. It's Stephen Colbert at Hogwarts. *stunned* Oh they didn-- I can't help but admire that this crossover exists.
