So what's been up? Still agonizing over a tough decision. I dont know what to do, and apparently that's absurd? I dont think so. Gah.
Other than that, not much. Work is going well, I got a raise. Woo! I spent half the week in Riverhead and will spend probably all next week there as well. Jury duty. Gross. Jury selection was by for the worst part though; a lot of waiting around and doing nothing, though I did finally get to finish The Chronicles of Narnia, which I had put on hold for a while because I have no time to read [for fun] during school. It was so great, I loved it. You really get to know Narnia really well, because the first book explains its creation, and the last describes the death of it, and then of course there's a whole lot which goes on between. I don't know how many books explain the birth and death of worlds in the way this did. It seemed beautiful. If the apocalypse does happen to occur within my lifetime (some crazy people say the world is ending in 2012), I really hope I get to see it end like Narnia did. I'm fairly certain things dont work that way though...more than fairly certain.
Anyways, being on the jury itself is really awkward. there's a significant amount of us just sitting alone in a room (and we're not allowed to discuss the case) in awkward silence. No one talks to each other. 14 people in a room sitting in silence is quite uncomfortable. You need to bring something else to do, some people didnt bring anything, no books, no music, nothing. They just sat and looked around. Plus, the clock in the room is broken. For some reason I feel like that adds to the awkwardness. No one really even moves unless they need to go to the bathroom, which is in the room because we're not allowed to leave; therefore the silence is occasionally broken by the sound of the toilet flushing. sometimes someone will say something and there will be a good 30 seconds of conversation, but then that dies down and its awkward again. I really feel like just blurting out "how about an ice breaker? we'll go around the room and everyone introduce themselves and add one interesting fact about yourself!"...except then I'd be completely weird and they might think I'm a creep. It might get some conversations going though. Maybe after a while people will start talking, we've only been on the trial for one day so far.
The town in Riverhead isnt bad. Its like a strip of little shops and restaurants. It kind of reminds me of a mini port jeff. There's a river/pond next to it too. On monday if its warm I might get something take out and eat it on a bench near the water and watch the geese and ducks. On friday I went to an exotic bird store and pet a parakeet, or something like that. One of those little colorful birds. There was a large parrot there that made an obscene amount of noise whenever anyone wasnt paying enough attention to it. No one's ever going to buy it because it sounds like it's being murdered the moment you walk away. It will scream for a while, then it will say hello or hi because I guess it figures if it does a trick he might get more attention, which was probably the case at some point. Another parrot (a macaw) from across the room said "shut up" when the other one was screaming up a storm. I thought that was hysterical.
Oh and to avoid some of the awkwardness on monday, I'm going to bring my laptop and a season of family guy.
Other than that, I found out something recently about someone I havent talked to in pretty much forever, but I'm really disappointed in them because I always thought they were better/smarter than that. Oh well, people change I suppose.
I'm free after 5 every day this week [because while I'm in court I obviously cant work] if anyone wants to do anything in the evening :).
PS: I miss my Simmons ladies a lot a lot (come visit!)
