1.) What literary character are you most like? Name the character, book and give a brief description.
I'd really like to say that I am Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, but it's not remotely true. I aspire to her most definitely and would very much like to have her independence and outspokenness, but I mostly keep my head down. Damn, Lunie, this is a hard one! I'd also like to say that I'm much like one of Hemingway's existential heroes who knows about the values and living life on their terms and good alcohol, but I'm not male, and Hemingway was a little sexist, bless his heart. I'd also love to be Zooey from Salinger's Franny and Zooey and know about doing everything for the Fat Lady and Seymour, but he's nuts and an actor, so, no, not me again.
I could go on and on about people I wish I could be (Shakespeare's Beatrice in Much Ado, some idiot in Wharton or James), but I'll go back to an author I truly geek-out about: Jane Austen. I'm probably a lot like Anne Elliot in Persuasion. I will admit that I might be a bit easily persuaded, but I'm also a hopeless romantic and would totally pine after some long lost love for years without a shred of hope all while doing the right thing by her family and society and all that jazz. Kate, if you know of a better character for me, please let me know, because this was way hard for me to come up with on the spur of the moment, and, as you all know, I'm a HUGE lit geek. :)
2.) Imagine yourself on the Galactica, what would your job be?
Oh Lords, I would have a boring job -- unless I was keeper of the porn, which, apparently, is already Gaeta's job, damn. No, I would probably be a nobody deckhand or a Dualla-type person, though it would be fun to be a pilot. I'm just not sure I have the ambition to be a pilot, and then probably only a Raptor pilot. No, damnit, I would be a frakkin' awesome Viper pilot! So there!
3.) Do you have a special talent?
Yes, I think this will qualify. Back-story first: I broke my right pinky finger sometime in grade school and never set it or whatever, so ever since then, any time I bend that finger, the knuckle in the middle pops. Somehow I discovered that if I put that knuckle between my upper and bottom front teeth, the bending pop is magnified and can take on different tones depending on how I move my lips and open my mouth. The answer is yes, I can play songs using only my finger and my mouth, though I only remember at this point "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "When the Saints Go Marching In." :)
4.) Would you ever want to be famous? If so for what?
Being famous doesn't really appeal to me that much, though I think everyone thinks about it a little bit. I'm more of a behind the scenes type of person, so I would want to be famous for writing or something in a support area, nothing performance oriented. Really, I just want to be Gail to one of my friends' Oprah.
5.) If you could have been a witness to any event in history what would that be?
I won't be cliche and go with something involving Jesus, though that would be interesting. I'd love to witness all the upheaval of the '60s in America, but damn Lunie, did you do this on purpose? You picked my two weaknesses (and my major and minor in college): literature and history! Ugh, I can't even choose between what writing period I would want to inhabit. Okay, I'll just say the Italian Renaissance in general as something I would have wanted to witness, and the building of the pyramids in Egypt, 'cause that's been bugging me.
Wow, that was longer than I expected! And most likely much more about me than most of you wanted to know, but, oh well!
