I had an eye and contact lens exam today. It was scheduled for 9:30 AM, which is the optometrist's first appointment of the day. You'd think I'd be able to get in right on time, but no. The reason? The doctor was late. She arrived at 9:45 AM, just as I was getting up to tell the receptionist that I wasn't waiting any longer. If the doctor was already seeing a patient, I'd be understanding -- unexpected things come up, people should talk more with their medical professionals, etc. -- but she was late to her own job! I know it is her office, but still. Luckily she picked up on my sheer annoyance and impatience, and uttered that magic word: discount. I ended up saving $10 (although techically I also lost $34 for missing work), but at least she offered something (I also got one of those little travel-size kits of my preferred saline solution, whoo for packable things).
So now I have a trial pair of
Acuvue Oasys and am supposed to 1) see if it helps my dry eyes and 2) never sleep in contacts ever. If they help, then yay! but they are a bit pricier than
Focus Night & Day, so the choice may depend on what rebates are out there. I comprehend that sleeping in contacts = very bad, but it also = convenient so yeah, I'm a bad patient.
In case I haven't mentioned it yet, I'm spending my summer as a grant monitor. Not only does it gain me internship credits, it pays $17/hour for me to travel to different youth programs in the greater Hartford area and see if they're doing what we contracted them to do. Of course, it involves traveling in the not-so-nice parts of Hartford because that is where the youth are that need the most help. This Friday, the other two monitors and I are taking a field trip and driving around to figure out where most of the programs are located. The one monitor grew up in and still lives in Hartford, so she's going to be our guide. At one point, we debated being able to walk to some of the places, but stopped when the Hartford native explained that she's comfortable going for early morning walks around her neighborhood because "crackheads don't get up at six." Soooo yeah, we'll probably drive.
