Ok, so one of the things that bothers me the most are people who constantly bitch about being persecuted for being Greek. I mean, come on, some people in the Greek System do some stupid shit. We have to deal with it. There are several other priviledges we have from being Greek. We have life-long connections to other Greeks, the ability to quit the Greek System, and a wealth of traditions.
My second "priviledge" may seem strange at first, but I was trying to equate it to race. People who are racially persecuted cannot change their skin tone, and therefore have no control over that aspect of their life. Greeks, however, make the conscious choice to remain Greek in the face of persecutors.
Yeah, so I went off on a tangent. Just now I was cruising
www.campusdirt.com, and the Greek Life sections really... REALLY got me down. I don't understand why people are so quick to put down the Greek System. "I don't need to buy my friends"? Please. In that case, congrats Daddy, it was money well-spent. Don't even get me started. I don't want to go off and explore the same arguments that everyone has already brought up. It's just... why do people seem to want to go out of their way to trash us? Are they jealous? That seems more than a little pretentious to consider that as an option... but could it be true? I remember labeling certain girls at school as "bitches" or "whores" simply because I (ever so secretly) desired the life that they seemed to live. Are they doing it to reassure themselves that they are better than the slim 10% of our campus? Fine, you're better than us, more socially adept. Good for you, move on.
Well, I just needed to get that out, for whatever reason. I'm really tired right now and I'm having trouble putting my feelings into words.
However, I do have one thing that I can express quite well.
I'm damn proud to be Greek, and even more proud to be a TRIDELTA!
And no one can take that away from me.
