Yes, yes they will

So, after taking a bit of a hiatus from thinking about large-scale global problems, I am again reading about environmentalism and our culture at large. Today, I came across a quote on CNN.com that is extremely relevant:

"The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior."

Now, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said this when Terry Schiavo died, and I find his myopia and arrogance regarding the government incredible and disheartening. I wonder why he and others in our government can apply such force and vigor to defending a "culture of life" which actually is a culture that promotes certain agendas, not necessarily life (witness the war in Iraq...anyone?). If it truly were a "culture of life," then equal respect would be given to a mother's life as well as a fetus's, to a husband's desire to let his wife die with dignity, to the millions of people around the world who die every day, whose problems could be alleviated with a FRACTION of what we spend on death-dealing weapons systems and armies. This is not a culture of life; it is a culture of hypocrisy. I take little comfort in the fact that the time will come when the men (yes, men) responsible for this will have to answer for their actions, because, by then, it might be to late to do much about them.
