Seven things:

1. Today is my house anniversary, to both the day and the date: I moved in on Saturday, September 1st 2001. So only another 19 years to go on the mortgage! On the down side, I feel like some weird Dickensian character sitting in here on my own all the time. On the up side, I'm so glad I got the house when I did, because house prices've gone berserk round here since then.

2. It's also 2 years (approx - I can't remember the exact date but I know that it was around the start of September) since I started the diet, full of optimism about how if I could lose 2lbs a week then it'd take me less than a year to lose 7 stone ... er, it never works for me like it does with people in magazine interviews, but maybe I'll get there eventually ...

3. A house round the corner from Mum and Dad's was broken into, on Thursday I think, by armed robbers whilst the owners - a couple about my age and their baby and toddler - were inside, at about 10 in the evening. Thankfully they just took the car keys and stole the cars and didn't hurt anyone, but it's really frightening and is making people in the area feel very jumpy.

4. I stayed up till half 1 this morning to watch the Henman-Tsonga match at the U.S. Open. I felt really sad at the end :-(. I'm glad I watched it all, though. And because I was up I did the ironing and sorted the washing out, so I didn't have as much to do when I got up this morning. It's quite nice being up at half 1, actually - no traffic noises, no motorbike revving or barking dogs from next door, no planes flying overhead ...

5. I've read lots of Wikipedia stuff about Egypt because I'm very, very sad and have to do lots of pre-holiday reading - I'm used to going to Europe or North America and knowing where I'm up to, and if I ever go to somewhere like China which I don't know the history of at all then I'll have to start reading up on it about a year in advance! I am so sad and weird. Oh well, never mind.

6. I am going to clout the next person who tells me a horror story about people getting food poisoning/stomach upsets/dysentery whilst in Egypt.

7. United v Sunderland is a 5:15 kick off today because of Setanta Sports messing about with the timing. Been watching the athletics in the meantime.
