I’ve been remembering more stuff. This is from Friday.
Friday additions
During Clare and Jonathan’s panal, Christian stepped up to the microphone and asked Clare a question about her owning a club out in LA and why when people from a certain tv show go to the door and drop her name, they still have to wait in line for 20 minutes? Clare denied all knowledge of the event. But it was just cute to see the playfulness the guests had with each other.
Also, Jonathan wouldn’t let us end his panal until everyone in the audience did the Hokey Pokey with him and Clare.
Last day at the convention. *sighs*
Sunday June 3rd - Time for Goodbyes already?!
Sunday i woke up differently. i woke up at 10:30 because I forgot to set the alarm (and had fallen asleep in a drunken stumper after listening to my neighbors have VERY loud sex [no, not jealous at ALL] and then the drunken guys outside my window that had other people in the hotel screaming out their windows...) and I promptly freaked out because for some reason I thought that the Chris and Steve auto session was at 10am. I was out of bed, in the shower, and dressed faster than I have ever done it in. And then I rush to get on line and I'm there and waiting...
And then Ian sees me and reminds me that the boys aren't in there until 2pm. (see, the staff knew me by then. *snort*) So, I left the queue and went to go sit in on the tail end of Elizabeth and Jonathan's panel when there was a notice on the overhead asking for any off-duty stewards willing to put in extra hours to go to the photo distribution room. Seeing that I had nothing until 1:30, I wandered off to help.
It was pretty cool. I went and just sat behind a table and helped attendee's find their photos with the guests, and I got to see SOOOO many faces and people. It was pretty cool. The four of us in the back chatted about the guests, the KANE gig, and then somehow we got on the topic of American vs. Starfury conventions. Starfury is going to be trying out their convention style in LA soon, and I just hope they know what they are getting into. It's such a difference, and I honestly perfer theirs a LOT more to any other convention that I have been to, especially in comparison to DragonCon. There is just a lot more respect for the guests and it makes for an atmosphere that is just more relaxed and enjoyable.
But so I skip out at 1:15 to go to Chris and Steve's panel. Which is supposed to start at 1:30. And instead we’re watching this movie called Sanctuary on the viewscreens. (www.sanctuaryforall.com). It looked really cool, but ask me if I remember details and I will remind you that I was still hung over at the time.
And, I apparently wasn’t the only one. Because when the boys came out finally, you could tell they were a bit tired and hung over. Steve then proceeded to move the light in front of him off center so he wasn’t blinded. And then the real proof came in the form of two beer bottles and a little glass of tomato juice. I was already laughing as they explained to the people about what a red beer is. They proceeded to gross out the entire audience while I just kept laughing because I actually knew what they were doing. (For those who don’t have experience, red beer is the process of mixing tomato juice in your beer. It’s a southern hangover cure. The beer takes the bite off the headache because it’s what you’re hung over on, and the juice goes in and purifies the body so that the hangover doesn’t come back when the beer is done.)
So the questions start. There are a LOT of music questions about what song do they like of this artist and of that artist and one girl asked about Chris being a co-producer for Death Walks the Streets and if that’s something he enjoyed and he says that he doesn’t understand why a lot of actors want to direct. He’s happy staying in front of the camera, but he would like to produce films and music as well. He has fun with it.
It was at this point that I figured out what questions I was going to ask so I got up on line at the microphone by me. At this point, Chris was answering another question, this time from a girl asking for advice on getting into acting, in which Chris told her to always be true to herself, no matter what a teacher might say.
While I was standing in line, I had this very bright light shining on MY face (I could see why Steve moved his. DAMN they were bright if you have to look into them) I tried to just shield my eyes, but the lady at the mic took pity on me and gave me her sunglasses for a bit. These things were huge, and a throwback to the 30’s I swear. But I was going blind, so I put them on.
A minute later Steve, bored while Chris is talking, looks in my direction. I have a huge light on me so he can clearly see me in these things. I watch as he gives me a WTF? look, then looks away. I laugh to myself and take the damn things off as Chris finished talking and they both turn to me.
Seeing that Steve has already seen me, I ask his question first. I asked him about how we got to see him do a bit of acting in Keep Your Distance, and if he would want to get into acting at some point. His answer was a flat out NO. He commented about how when something is filmed, it skips around and is never in order, so you can never really get a story from beginning to end until it’s over. Keep Your Distance was ok because how hard is it for him to act like a guitar player? Chris jumped in and mentioned that Steve had also been in just married, being a drunken guest at the wedding reception, and everyone had loved his scene but they had cut it out.
Then I got to ask my question to Chris. Of course, it went back to sword fighting. (I’m an irredeemable swordfight junkie, sue me.) I asked him about how we get to see him swordfight in both Secondhand Lions and in season 5 of Angel, and what styles he might know and does he enjoy it? He answered by first saying “Styles? You mean beyond the 6 positions?” and proceeded to move his arm in the classic box blocking motions that, for me, was just too cute. (again, sword fight junkie typing. Shush.) He was trained by Anthony De Longis -
http://www.delongis.com/index.html. He said that he enjoyed doing it, and especially liked when he had the scene where he was fighting with two swords. It made him look cool. But he says that he really enjoys working with the bo staff, being able to twirl it around and stuff. (which of course made ME jealous because it’s the one real full weapon form I have NO experience in and have wanted to for YEARS now…).
But yes, I got to have a moment to bond with Christian over weaponry. Have I mentioned yet that I am weird like this?
After that was my autograph session. All I will say is that I love being a steward. I got to get in quickly and there were still not a lot of people in there. I like that because I’m a talkative person and want to get a few minutes with the guests, but I hate doing that if there is a line behind me because I’m not being fair to the other attendees.
I got to J’s table first. I had been falling in love with this man all weekend long, so it was awesome to be able to get some time with him. Of course, the first thing was after I said Hello, he looked at me and asked where I was from. Told him born in New York but living outside of Baltimore. He laughed because J was actually born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Bladensburg, which is about 30 minutes from where I live. Then I got the “what are you doing here?” question which was that I came for the convention and the KANE concert. I then told him that I was proud of him for having the courage to write and direct his short that he did recently, seeing that it’s something I want to do one day I know that I’m scared shitless, so I can admire the courage it took him to do it. He thanked me for that, and we chatted a bit about making films and he told me to start with shorts and work my way up to feature length stuff. He had a line starting then so I said goodbye and moved on.
I walked around the whole autograph area because the last three people in the room were the ones I wanted to see the most. The first was Juliet Landau. Again upon hearing my accent, I was asked why I was there. I just pointed at the boys are the next table and said it was their fault because they didn’t tour the east coast for a long time and this was the closest gig. Then I told her that however, she was my bonus. She looked at me and smiled, going “I’m your bonus?” and I explained to her how when Amy Acker dropped out, I had been upset, but when they announced that Juliet was going to be there, I got excited because she was one of the few actresses I really did want to meet. So she was very excited to be my bonus guest for why I would fly across an OCEAN to see.
After Juliet, I finally got to talk to the boys one on one, separately, and for a good amount of time each. Steve would be first, and he welcomed me with a bright smile. I kinda wish I had printed up his banner similar to how I had printed up the graphic from New Country Star (NCS), but hindsight is 20 20. I got him to autograph my favorite picture of him, which is the one of him in the rain, and then he also autographed the picture of the three of us that was taken the day before, and then the NCS graphic. I got the whole “why are you here?” and I told him about my job and that I was going to Birmingham to report on the gig there, and I wanted to get to meet them. I also mentioned that I wanted him to come to Annapolis to play because I think his music would be a great fit there, and I would do some scouting for him if he would like. He started to tell me that he had done some of the recording work on his album in Maryland, but he couldn’t remember the town. Oh, but he tried SO hard to. He is such a sweetheart, and it’s awesome that once he does start talking, he just wants to keep talking. It was a nice feeling, but he had a line growing behind me, so I quickly wrapped up the conversation, promised to talk more the next day in Birmingham, and moved on to the next table.
Being Christian Kane.
He saw me approaching and smiled, and proceeded to apologize for not letting me buy him a drink last night, which I waved off and told him it was fine. He then recognized the accent and told me that he didn’t hear it last night at the bar, which I laughed and told him that it was loud and he was coming off a gig high, so I understood. We chatted a bit about NCS and I got my 8x10 of him signed (omg I love the boy, but they need new pictures… there was only one I actually liked! And that is bad…) as well as the man sandwich pic. Then I pulled out the NCS graphic and smiled as he looked at it, and I told him that I’m the one who made it. He asked me if I wanted him to write something on it and I told him no, a signature was fine because I just wanted to be able to have it framed and know that they had seen it.
Then I gave him my gift. What I had done was taken the two graphics that I had made for NCS and put the on an 8x10, and then under the big one I put the banner that I had made for their banner contest (the banner in my profile). Then, in the top corner that was just a black background, I had written in my silver sharpie “Christian - Sometimes you’re inspired, and sometimes you’re the inspiration. Thank you for being mine. Alison”. For this one he sat back, a bit shocked at what he was holding, and he let his fingers travel over the graphics. He then stopped at, of all things, my banner and tapped it, saying he recognized that one. Of course that made me happy because of the three, that’s the one I didn’t think he would have seen at all! He then stood up and leaned over the table giving me a big hug and thanking me. My first Christian hug. I was a very happy girl.
We talked about the gigs for a bit too, but I could see that an impatient line was gathering so we wrapped it up and he told me to go talk to Eric about anything I might need. I go off following Chris’ directions to find Eric, but he manages to find me before I’ve even left the room.
I talked to Eric. And yeah, that’s all I’m saying in respecting the band’s privacy. Sorry. But Eric is really cool and I look forward to working on things with him in the future for NCS.
After that I went back to photo distribution to keep helping them. We end up packing the room up and moving it to the room where the photos had been taken. I then help train a new steward who came in to help, and head off to drop my stuff off in my room, get dinner (which is actually edible tonight!) and then off to my real duties.
As we gathered I went and told Krugan that we had all arrived and we chatted and he asked me to marry him. I told him that I’ve determined that I’m going to live life as a single girl, and he said that he was fine living in sin. LOL. Oh, I miss Krugan. We had a lot of fun together.
At one point Helen, me, Krugan and Andy were standing at the door and I was writing in my journal while I told them about my crazy adventure and why I came across the ocean to the convention and how I was going to Nashville after it even though I wish I could have just joined the KANE caravan. Andy handed out these white puffy chips from the Chinese place they had gotten dinner from, which were kinda weird and melted in my mouth. They were some kind of puffed noodle. I’d never seen them before and they laughed at the look I gave when I was handed on. People say that they love my WTF? look I make. I guess it’s amusing too.
Pixel and I joked about divvying up KANE between the two of us, and then we opened the doors for the final night.
While we waited for the closing ceremonies to start, this other steward, Mike, who I had been chatting his ear off about KANE the night before, kept talking to me. I was nice and chatted back, always happy to listen to my own voice… I mean talk to people LOL. Well, it wasn’t until he asked me if I wanted to have a drink and a dance with him later that I realized that he was FLIRTING with me!
My radar for being flirted with is so dead, and this just proves it. *sigh*
But so he went off outside to smoke, and I turn to Helen horrified and ask if she knew he was flirting with me and she just started laughing! They then proceeded to screen J’s short, Privacy Policy, but the people just kept talking and I couldn’t hear the dialogue at all. I will have to try and find it somewhere else to watch :( It looked interesting though…
The closing ceremony started soon after and each guest gave a small goodbye speech. Clare had come up with a top ten list that I really wish I had a copy of because it was hilarious. Of course #1 on the list was “What happens at Starfury STAYS at Starfury!” It was hard to hear a lot of things at the doorway because of the people in the hall talking, but I got to listen to J’s a bit. He was talking about how there were people from all over the place gathered in the room, like from Germany, France, Italy, and even New York…
It was at that point that me, being the native NY’er for most of my life, pumped my fist in the air. Well, J saw it, saw ME through the crowd and then shouted “And Baltimore! That’s a shout out for you babe!” I promptly ducked down and blushed, while Helen once again laughed at my expense. Of course, being one of 4 American’s in the crowd, I’m pretty sure that the rest of the guests who had met me was well aware of who J just pointed to.
After the ceremony was over, we had our steward’s wrap-up meeting and got out little certificates. Each area gave special honors to those who went above and beyond what they needed to do. I got honors from both the photo distribution staff AND the Main Hall. I think I tried to hide behind Steve P. at this point in embarrassment. But the funniest bit was that the one who got special honors got one kind of certificate with a lot more signatures than the other three groups. The girl from photo distribution looked at me and said “You know Chris and Steve didn’t sign that one. You want the one they did?” I laughed. Like they had to ask.
Told you that by the end of the con, everyone on the staff knew who I was there to see. *innocent*
After that, I went back into the main hall but my German girls were gone, and I figured they had gone back to their hotel to pack, so I made my way back to my room (molesting Carol on the way) and had some quality time with my Jacuzzi bathtub before bed.
Coming up next - Monday AKA Chris and Steve meet Chris and Steve, someone get that boy a capo, and the super secret project is revealed!
