Weekend Update

Sep 03, 2006 20:59

So yeah, I'm supposed to be doing stuff this weekend to get my mind off Dragon*Con, right?

Here's another long post of DOOM!

What I've been doing (and no, not who *snaps fingers*):

Friday: Lived through a hurricane! I haven't really been near one in a long time, since NY is too north to get anything but after-effect rain. but we lost power. And stuff. We lit candles and kinda just sat around, calling people on our cell phone to keep busy. Went to be early because there's really nothing you can do in the dark. I couldn't even read!

Power luckily came back on at 9:30 in the morning. YEY!

Saturday: It had stopped raining. We went over to the MD Ren Fair (MDRF from now on) and walked around. I decided to get a season pass because that way I can go whenever I want and not feel that I'm spending too much money. It's really nice there, though. Everyone is friendly and it just makes me remember why I left New York.

(On the way there:
Ana: Look, the County Fair is from the 13th to the 17th. [and somethng else]
Me: And there's a tractor pull?
Ana: Yeah.
Me: What's a tractor pull?
Ana: You don't know?
Me: Um... city girl?)

Got to hang out with dashrippington and the guys from FIGHT SCHOOL for a bit. I swear, watching the group perform just keeps reaffirming my wanting of getting back into combat training. I can't remember missing it this much except just after I left college.

We left the faire only after about three hours to go to the mall and meet up with the_gwo and his parents. We walked through the mall for a bit, and I was able to find some really comfortable boots at Burlington Coat Factory that kinda look like garb, but really aren't. But hey, you have to start somewhere. And they were only $25 bucks!

(Oh, what I decided to do was spend the last bit of credit on my card to get SOMETHING to wear to the MDRF beyond jeans.. I was feeling out of place, especially with analise being in full garb every time. So I had $150 on the credit card. Figure I'm down to $125 now)

During the mall trip, I got two phone calls that made me happy. Call 1 was from scifantasy, letting me know that he got me an autographed pic of Alan Tudyk! *squees like mad fangirl* Second call was from AARON! Just letting me know how the con was. It felt really nice, being able to talk to him since I wasn't able to see him this year.

I seriously love my friends. You all know that, right?

Once that was over, headed home to rest, watched Taxi (*mmmm, Christian Kane.*), then RP'ed with Face in the wedding thread of DOOM before turning in to bed.

Sunday: We got up early to head back to the MDRF (season pass is a GOOD THING). I wore this nice white shirt that has a design embroidered into it so it looks a bit medevil and stuff... and jeans.

I went in with jeans. About an hour(?) later, I was strapped into a bodice and wearing an orange skirt. And guys.... I LIKED it! Well, not liking it like OMG I'm turning female must wear dresses and skirts forever!!!!!!!!!!! But more like "OMG I'm a size 18?! PUT ME IN IT AND LET THE BOYS LOOK AT ME!" like it.

Course, I'm really not that big into letting my boobies hang out to the point where one hiccup and hello indecent exposure! (though if my shirt was any thinner or it was colder, oh boy would I have been in trouble today...) It was right about here where I did my voice post. Then we were off to see FIGHT SCHOOL. We saw the guys before we actually got there, so Ana made us all pose to take a picture that I will probably post in the next entry by itself (Ana: "Say Steak on a Stake?" The rest of us: "huh?")

prophetkristy, silmaril, scifantasy, and any other ones of you buggers who are going with me to the faire this year... You have no choice. You're going to Fight School. I don't care. You'll enjoy it. BEST. SHOW. EVER!

And no, I'm not sucking up dashrippington. I seriously mean it.

After that, did a bit of walking. Did a bit of eating (of what the bodice would allow my stomach to expand for), then analise and I split up. I went to see the archery demo, and I got to be all heroic and stuff. While the demo was going on, this little girl near me started to scream. She had just gotten stung by a bee. Her friends and parent-like person were all like OMG what do we do!

Sheesh, I'm a city kid! You first get the bee off her! So i took my bag and swiped the bee away from the girl. Then I checked her over, and she wasn't puffing up or screaming anymore. So i pointed them off to the first aid tent and told them go there NOW because you should always get it checked out anyway. I was about ready to pick her up too and carry her, but she was able to walk and so they made their way over there. But I was a semi-hero, so I felt good.

After that, I went to talk to Nymblewyke about the sword training, and instead chatted with Hamish for what, nearly an hour? Got info on where to get instructor information in the area, and was advised to speak to someone else in the faire for even MORE information. YEY! *bounces* I'm tempted to write my old combat instructor in Niagara and see if I could order one of his training rapiers from him so that I can get used to the weight again (the katana and broadsword aren't the same).

After that, i stopped bugging the guys for awhile and tried to find Ana, but alas I couldn't. But I found a few people I met in the morning and walked with them, talking, and then went off to the human chess game.

This, my friends, is the reason why as I'm typing, I have no voice. I was on the red side, and iy was swordfighting and the Fight School guys were there and I was cheering like mad and now I have no voice left in which to talk with. But my side won HUZZAH! and yeah. Let's just end it with one word. Fangirl.

After that was over, I went on the hunt for more water, some fruit (god bless the fruit vendors!) and a shady spot to do a bit of writing. I had a great idea for a new novel, but I need to see if it'll actually have substance. I might use it for NaNo if nothing else.

Then I got a seat to finally see the second half of Fight School (does anyone see a theme here yet?) Ana found me and the second show is just as good, especially the impromptu ten minutes till the show starts gabbing.

After that, I had enough for the day and headed home, where I collapsed onto my bed for a good hour of sleep before logging back online to keep up the rp's with my pups.

So that's what I've been doing. Go me for keeping busy. But I know I'm probably going to crash soon. I'm going BACK to the MDRF tomorrow, but I am just aiming to get there just before 11. I need some type of rest, after all. Then back to work on Tuesday.

But... I'm taking my camera tomorrow! YEY! I found it and it's charging! So I will take pics of the faire, and of my new digs, and finally get around to posting them (if I can find the cable that hooks up to my camera to the computer next...)

Until later!
