I really don't know. :\ Kindergarten was good for Eddy. He's bright, but started out with dead average skills and a good attitude of perseverance and willingness to work on things that weren't inherently valuable. He had a great teacher whose main goal was to keep her class loving school; her classroom discipline was non-punitive and she didn't excessively emphasize "right and wrong" ways of doing things (eg. giving Eddy some space to learn to correct his own letter reversals when he wrote). I'm nervous, though, that first grade is going to have more incentive-based reading programs and I am adamantly opposed to these. I think I can guide Eddy through them but I don't know about Natalie. And I'm nervous that if she gets a more punitive Kindergarten teacher or if she gets bored with reading lessons, she'll shut down. She's got a different personality from Eddy, she's more of the perfectionist type and really hates being wrong. We're working on that though.

I'll just keep trying to be involved in the classroom, and keep tabs on what they're doing and what is working or not working for them, and re-evaluate as necessary I guess. I will also be keeping an eye on that little boy from the library. He was *really* precocious and if his enthusiasm seems to be slipping, I'll kind of be treating him like the canary in the coal mine...
