Ugh. Last night we went out with DH's friends from work (and brought the boy). We got home at 8 which is pretty reasonable and had the boy in bed by 8:15.
He slept until 1:15 which is the longest stretch of unbroken sleep he's had in a LONG time. When he cried I went to get him and nurse him but the second I picked him up he felt on FIRE. His little head and hands were burning up. I couldn't easily get to a thermometer so I just changed him out of his goin-out clothes, wiped his face with a cool cloth, and took him to the guest room bed so I could keep an eye on him and nurse him as much as possible (trying to keep him from getting dehydrated). He had a rough time falling asleep but finally did; he woke somewhat frequently and I wiped his brow at least one more time. He had his usual wet diaper at about 4am so no dehydration fears.
Daddy came in to join us at about 7am and as I told him about the apparent fever and such, the boy woke up and started babbling and playing. He also cooled off noticeably! DH just reminded me that you can't REALLY tell a fever by touch, and that the guest room (which we keep un-air-conditioned) is really hot which could account for it. I left DH in the blacked-out guest room to sleep in (since he works tonight and needs to stockpile sleep.)
Eddy has been himself if a teeny little smidge subdued this morning. A few minutes ago I noticed his head getting hot again so I went and got the thermometer. Axillary temp 99, which is a mild fever elevated temperature (but our thermometer does read notoriously low.)
So, I'm going to consult with Dr. Daddy to see if we should come to Jing's party. :( He certainly looks like he's well enough to enjoy it, but if he's contagious we certainly won't go spreading disease. Cristal, I'll give you a call if we have to bail. :\
