I've been too lazy to write this the past week, but here it is...
Okay, this concert was at Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. It's a really tiny club that has an equally small bar/restaurant right next door (it's an attached building, but the entrances are separate for the patrons). We got there early since I always try and get a good spot so that I can see over people. Yes, I am that short. Anyway, we parked in their parking lot before the show. The car ended up facing a side entrance to the club. Anthony and some of the other (current) band members of M83 were standing around outside of this said side entrance. They looked at us a few times, but I was too shy to go over and say hello. Anthony wasn't smiling at us or mingling with other fans or anything...it was kind of intimidating to say the least. Soon after we drove up, the non-local opening band, The Berg Sans Nipple, drove up in their van right next to us. So they got out and started hanging out with the M83 band members. Some of them (including Anthony) went back inside after a few minutes. We ended up going into the bar/restaurant for drinks and stuff. After we had been in there for a while, we could faintly hear M83 rehearsing next door. Then the band walked into the restaurant and sat down in a booth. I kept trying to slyly look over at them, lol. Anthony usually looked back at me (still not smiling, mind you), so I don't think I was doing a good job of that. We had to walk past them to leave, but I was still too shy and nervous to say anything unfortunately. It wasn't like they were socializing with fans or anything. I couldn't tell if they wanted to be left alone or not. So...that really sucks. I could kick myself for not saying anything, especially since we left right after the concert ended. I totally missed out on my chance of talking to them. =( Oh well.
Anyway, we ended up being the second group standing in line for the concert, so we got in before a lot of other people. I went right down to stand in the center of the edge of the stage. At least I got a good spot, though most of my pictures look like crap.
Here's an example of the M83 pictures I took:
The local opening band called Ghost In The Water started playing after a while. They only played a few songs, but they were pretty good. The guitar was louder live than it is on their album unfortunately -- I kinda like how electronic-based the album is. They were totally adorable and silly, and even smiled at me a few times. I hope I can see them again sometime.
Here's my blurry picture:
The second opening band was The Berg Sans Nipple. I didn't buy anything of theirs on iTunes beforehand, so I didn't know what to expect. Their music was actually quite spectacular live. The percussion was really impressive. Though they weren't really big on the chitchat or anything in between songs. The setup and take-down was really freaking long for this band. I've never seen so many cords and cables in all my life!
Here are the blurry pictures of the two band members:
And obviously M83 was the last band to go on. I'd seen some of the band members watching The Berg Sans Nipple from backstage. Anthony was setting up and testing his guitar right in front of me. He set up this little tin Spongebob box with knobs on it near his pedals and stuff. It made me laugh.
I got this picture of him (it's blurry, though):
Anyway, their show was superb. Anthony thanked the crowd several times for coming to the show. During a break between songs, this one guy said something like "I love French people. French people rock!" Anthony smiled in return and said something (in a heavy French accent) along the lines of "Thank you. I love Americans." Maybe you had to be there or something, but it was really funny. ;P I know this sounds really pathetic, but Anthony looked directly at my face one or two times. It makes sense since I was directly in front of him when he was playing his guitar. When he switched over to keyboards/synthesizers, he was a little to my right. And the few times that he came over to the edge of the stage, he (more specifically his crotch) was really, really fucking close to my face, haha.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun. It was very crowded by the time that M83 started playing. I'm just glad that I was right along the edge of the stage. I really would have had a tough time taking pictures over random people's shoulders. The music was so loud and pulsating that an empty glass sitting near the edge of the stage randomly toppled over onto the floor. M83 definitely rocked the house. I hope they'll come back sometime...
