mostly good this day.
The ticket drawing and signing went very smoothly from what I witnessed. The photo meet-up, while disorganized was still good. I know a lot of people got a lot of pictures. Mike, Bryan and sifu Kisu all showed up for the photoshoot, and they were incredibly patient and cool about all of it. The con staff who was handling signings was great - very nice, understanding, and knew what she was doing. Blackshirt staff are awesome. I got a second ticket for the signing, and my first ticket didn't get taken since I was at the front of the signing line. so I gave one of my tickets to a little boy (maybe 5?), my second to a group who hadn't gotten winning tickets, and helped them forge one more. Got two posters for people unable to attend and got signings on Melon Lord's head for Erk.
Handed out some of the promo cards for Avatarsd, got a few people to play the demo thanks to Tyler's laptop powercord working my laptop (thank you thank you thank you), including Ali's husband(?) who's actually a game developer.
When Bryke showed up, the crowd kept pushing them further back towards the corner where I had my laptop and demo set up... The kid we loaned Melon Lord to, Monica and Tyler got in for photos with them, and I jumped up since I was already there. Mike commented on my hogmonkey, and then there was a lull before the next photo, giving Bryan the opportunity to also compliment the hogmonkey. I took the chance to show them the demo. Both were impressed. I was very happy.
Later at the signing I gave them each a copy of the cd, which had the demo and a few other extras, including the flash dress-up games and cracked wheel of shipping doom. sifu Kisu and Johane also got a copy of the cd. I wanted to give one to Ali either for her or to pass on to Dave, but didn't wind up seeing her again after the signing. sifu was very approachable, told jokes and gave lessons on some of the bending forms.
Johane pulled Tyler, Anthony, Melissa and I aside to a secluded part of the con to watch some super secret, and completely hilarious animatics. AvatarMom had already seen them of course.
Went to dinner again at old spaghetti factory, got to talk to AvatarMom, Zimmay and Finny. Was fun. Getting back to the hotel room, Tyler, Monica, Anthony and I were laughing much to hard to barely get any sleep.
The kid I gave Melon Lord to wear during the photoshoot turned out to be a bit creepy and a freak towards Monica (am uber sorry about that). But Tyler pulled out his fix it and pulled him and his brother(?) aside to ask them to leave.
They'd been tag alongs, along with simone and the other suki (sorry, I don't think I ever caught her name)... but it was supposed to be a small intimate dinner with Mom, Zimmay and Finny. Jan, Tyler and Kim, not wanting to leave the other two girls out, opted to sit with them, while Monica, Anthony, Mom and I sat with Zimmay and Finny.
Zimmay and Monica were sitting on the inside edge of the table near a little shelf ledge, and I on the outside aisle. so I asked them to place Melon Lord on the ledge, out of the way for safe keeping.
After awhile, the other table finished eating and paid. Janet came to tell Anthony about something upsetting that had happened at the other table, but they rest of that table came over before she could finish. They hung out, some sitting on the ledge where Melon Lord was being kept.
A phone was dropped, some general confusion, I look over and notice Melon Lord nearly flattened. His stem was pushed in, he had to large dents in him. I almost started to cry. I didn't see whoever nearly destroyed this costume that I'd made as a gift to Erk and gotten Mike, Bryan and Kisu to sign... but I was fairly livid.
I ran over, grabbed him.... fortunately I was able to repair most of the damage...I think part of his resilience was due to the coat of rubber latex I put between the paper and the paint. But he's got a big tear on the back right next to the signatures, and several spots where the paint has cracked or flaked off.
Not wanting to make a scene in the restaurant, I held my tongue.
But seriously, fucked up. You put your blood, sweat and tears into something completely irreplaceable only to have it nearly destroyed, is just fucked up. I know Janet experienced the same thing with her Appa costume.
I don't understand how someone can not have the consideration to be mindful of other peoples things. Throughout Saturday I was apprehensive of all the crowds during the ticket draws and meet up about Jan's Appa, straight up yelling at the crowd to not step on or crush it. When the Finale Aang costume that Zimmay made for Anthony didn't fit over his head and I was so reluctant to cut the seams for fear of ruining all the hard work she'd put into it... And then to be face to face with such utter disregard is infuriating.
