Hah! That got your attention, didn't it? :D
Nope. I haven't written pr0n.. but I have got that song going round in my head!
A report from the front lines of London life..
Commuting. Ack. 20 minutes on a train standing up all the way? Really not good for the arthritic knees.
City centre office. Cool. Bars and restaurants? Everywhere you look. Theatres? 4 stops away on the Tube.
Getting here? Nightmare!
FIVE HOURS on a train. FIVE. Two of them sat unmoving in Peterborough station. I could have driven here in 2½ hours! A failed signal just outside London meant all trains coming into Kings Cross were held at Peterborough for aaaaages and for two hours they weren't even able to tell us a timescale of how long the delay would be. Then we stopped again at the failed signal and waited again.. hubby was providing live updates from Kings Cross (where people waiting were being given more information than us poor saps on the delayed trains!) and apparently they were having to manually wave trains through the failed signal... literally manually - a little man at the side of the track waving the trains through!!
So my idea of coming down to London the afternoon/evening before and getting an extra evening with hubby was kinda scuppered - by the time the train limped into Kings Cross and then we got the tube to Victoria and an overland train out to Penge, we eventually got to his house at about 11pm, had a quick bite to eat and went to bed! :/
But anyway, the shared house he is staying in while contracting down here is lovely and his landlady is an absolute sweetie (she'd laid out the table nicely for us and made arrangements to be scarce during the evening, so we could have a romantic reunion! Bless her!).
Although I've been down to the London office before, this was my first experience of travelling into the office during the rush hour - yesterday was fairly horrible, standing up all the way, crammed in like sardines with the guy behind me seeming to find a way to be pressed up against me no matter how far forward I leant! :/ Today I did a bit better, headed more for the tail end of the train (all the die-hard commuters head for the front of the train to be first off and avoid the queueing to get through the bottleneck of the ticket barrier at the station) and managed to get a seat when someone got off at the second station along.
I have to admit what is kinda fun about working in a city centre like London is being able to e.g. pop into Pret on the way to the office and get a skinny latte to start the morning. Mind you, diet-wise, probably a good idea that I don't usually get to do that! :D
Met hubby for lunch yesterday and then after work braved the Tube (oh dear god, I thought the overland train was packed during the morning rush hour? When I had to change lines at Green Park, they were queuing down the stairs just to get onto the platform for the Picadilly line!! Eeep. Then when I got to Leicester Square, hubby and I had to coordinate finding each other, given that the Tube station has about 6 different exits! Reunited once more, we dived into a nearby cafe (which turned out to be a lovely little Thai/Chinese vegetarian buffet place) for a quick meal and then found time for a medicinal beer/large glass of wine in a nearby pub before heading to the Noel Coward theatre for Avenue Q.
It was brilliant. Hubby's brother had lent hubby the CD over a year ago and hubby loved it... I wasn't too sure at first but found it funny once I got into it. The live stage show is fab - very cleverly done and very funny and wow some incredible voices.. the lead female singer had a stunning voice.
So it was a great evening. I laughed. A lot. :) And I need to get my own Bad Idea Bears. They're fun! :D Remember kids, when it comes to beer, you're only losing money in the long run if you don't buy in bulk! :D
It was another late night though and I'm feeling it today. Soooooo didn't want to get out of bed and still feel half awake now. Urgh. Tonight we're planning maybe a quick drink or two after work at most and then head back to the house and chill out, maybe watch this week's NCIS. Then tomorrow morning it's up early for the long trek to North Wales, via Leicestershire - and an internet-free existence until Sunday afternoon! *sob*
Ah well, better do some work, I guess... ;)
