I have returned from the depths of Southern California.

I spent the vast majority of my time either asleep or reading -- either way, in air conditioning. On the minus side, the hotel room got to feel really confining. On the plus side, I finished 2.5 books, and I can now declare Terry Pratchett's Interesting Times and Douglas Hofstadter's translation of Eugene Onegin to be definitely worth reading. Unfortunately, the textbook Language: Its Structure and Use does not make me happy.

Right outside our room, there was this public-pool area where they had music playing, LOUDLY, ALL DAY. It wasn't particularly bad music, but it was constant, and it was loud enough that you could just hear it even with the door shut. Aaaarrrgh. Oh, and, they kept playing the same few songs over and over again. Get a new playlist, why don'tcha?

I climbed up on the roof once. Wasn't exciting enough to be worth going twice, but enh, worth trying to see what it was like.

But ah, well, I am very relaxed now. Hooray.
