So I'm sitting in the library at school, reading the Cambridge, and I'm not really reading it, more listening to this group of young girls who are sitting at the table next to mine, trying to study Latin.
They're not getting very far. One of them is like "I don't know what a subjunctive is." Another tries to explain it by giving an example of how you change a verb from indicative to subjunctive, but the first girl is like "No, that's not what I mean. I mean I actually don't know what a subjunctive is." I get this urge to jump in and tell her it's a type of mood and explain how it works, but that's a bad idea because (1) it would be ridiculously creepy and (2) I don't actually know how the subjunctive works, especially in Latin.
A minute later, they're discussing the plural of moose. Is it meese? It can't be meese. But it isn't mooses, because that just sounds dumb. One girl argues in favor of moose, and the others start shooting her down, but then another girl is like "But wait -- fish and fish."
And I had to stop myself from giggling. Awwww, they discovered the zero morpheme. It was actually really cute.
