I definitely had a coherent thing to say, but it has slipped my mind completely, so here are some randomnesses.
I finished my biotech paper. Whee! I must say, it turned out shiny. In particular, a lot of the things I thought were holes turned out to have perfectly coherent explanations. It just hadn't occurred to me to ask about them till the other day. And I'm also unexpectedly grateful to everyone who ever made me read a scientific paper (John and Dr. Weaver, but also my own interest). The language and customs of paper-writing seemed to just come naturally to me, which was nice.
On a semi-related note, today Ben and I gave our presentation to the fine folks at the company where we've been interning. It was well received, in not small part because most of the audience were administrative or EE types, not biologists, so we didn't put them to sleep while explaining what denaturing a protein is. I was surprised by how non-nervous I was, actually. I've had plenty of practice explaining this particular project to lay people, and in presentation in general. This is a Good Thing. I used to be afraid of going into science because you have to give talks all the time, but now I think I'll be able to hack it. (Back when I gave a short talk on "The Neuroscience of Music Perception and Enjoyment, OMG, Insert Dramatic Soundtrack Here", I actually enjoyed it. That is a good sign. Yay presenting lit reviews.)
I can sometimes hit the goddamn low A flat in Music of the Night. (Sorry for blathering about this issue yet again...) It seems to depend how recently I last exercised my low range, which is a reasonable thing to depend on. Oh and, it is up on the list of solos for the Chorus Broadway Review, which I didn't expect. (Good thing I told Mackey-people I couldn't do it. We wanted to include only non-overlapping material since the Broadway Review and the Mackey-concert are right next to each other.) I signed up to audition for it, but there's no guarantee I'll even be able to do it when Mrs. Jordan hears me. And even if I get lucky, it's not likely I'll get the solo. For one thing, actual legit male singers have signed up for it, and Mrs. Jordan pretty much never lets girls do guy songs. Also, I hear she might break it into N parts and have N guys sing it since it's such a long song. If that happens, it has to be N males, not N-1 males and one female. I can simulate a male voice when I'm on my own, but not in juxtaposition with actual male voices. Mneh.
Oh well, though. There are some nice tenor songs that I might try out for. (Oh What A Circus from Evita in particular; also the eponymous song from Sunset Boulevard, though I don't know if we're doing that song.) They are more in my range. Plus, the subject matter is less gendered, so Mrs. Jordan might be less reluctant to let a female sing those male songs.
