I have to buy groceries every week for my mother-in-law, who is on medicaid and receives food stamps. The first time a cashier had trouble processing it, she all but shouted down the line, "HEY! How do I do this FOOD STAMP transaction?"
I went to the customer service desk and asked for the manager. I explained that while I wasn't particularly sensitive or worried about the judgment of my fellow shoppers, other food stamp users might be, and that perhaps the cashiers could be a bit more discreet when they need help. I was thanked profusely for taking the time to point this out, and it was reviewed with all front-end staff by the following week.
