So Frisco

Sooo Frisco. living here, working here, and making it out here makes me feel like a true city girl. i even bought the book A Modern Girl's Guide to Life and i sooo relate. i wake up, put on a business outfit with 4 inch heels and a peacoat, a scarf around my neck, gloves on, a thermo of coffee in one hand and an Ipod in another. off to the subway station i go where i sit amongst other Ipod listening citizens ignoring the person next to me, yet observing the world through this inch thick layer of window for 30 minutes to and from work daily. swaggering down the street looking as if i'm just as imporatant as the lawyer waiting for the light next to me or the designer on the other side of me, i just FEEL sooo Frisco.

work is a full day of selling yourself. you need confidence to make it in the city because you're surrounded by the best of the best and you have to make them want what you have to offer and with that, you also build great relationships with these top executives. most importantly, you must make them trust you because their money is their life. your rewards? besides monetary, usually free screening tickets, gifts, invitations to recognition awards ceremonies where all these execs do is get drunk, or box seat tickets to baseball games where you sit next to famous people like Steve Young; yes it happened. you have to be sharp in San Francisco cause you never know who will come into your work like Dale Davis, for instance, and this is a weekly occurance. SF people must be on top of their game; "let's do lunch" is a regular vocabulary saying which is another way of building your network and climbing up that corporate ladder.

i get out of work and it's not home i go, it's to happy hour at one of the bars where i can mingle with other financial district people and expand my network and it's not an Adios Mother Fucker or bottle of Henn that i order, no, it's a Gin and Tonic - Bombay and Tonic to be exact or a glass of Zinfendel. then it's off to grab a little sushi dinner and go to free movie screenings; all in a weekday's work. it's not unusual to go out like this on weekdays in SF but several miles out of the city in San Jose, it's pretty much unheard of. nights are spent taking care of my townhome and watching Sex in the City reruns; of course more city stuff. on weekends, there's no city but THE city to party in and if it's not a party, it's a wine tasting event, a museum gala, or another dinner date at one of the many restaurants to sample in SF. i've turned into a city girl and i love it. i've found another piece of myself, but mind you, i will always be Alina from the... burbs =)
