In which everyone is having a really, really bad day

...ouch.

Given what happened in Episode Six of Live Another Day, and given that we are apparently doing twelve-episode seasons now, I think we have just coined a new term. It is called BEING SIXED.

And me? I was just Sixed.

I don't even know WHERE I start with this one except to say HOLY POWERS ON A STICK. I have TOO MANY NOTES and a lot of them are in CAPSLOCK.

Forgive me if this is a little chaotic...

- Eric taking one of Ben's dogtags. Oh God. Oh God, my heart. That little scene was so poignant and simple and lovely and my heart aches. I still haven't gotten over Ben and I don't plan on doing so any time soon.

- This episode had quite a lot of Eric and Growly Tom, which I must say I approve of (EVEN THOUGH YOU NEED TO STOP STARING AT HIM LIKE THAT, GROWLY TOM, BECAUSE HE IS MARRIED AND YOU HAVE ANDY. OR YOU SHOULD. REPEATEDLY.) But. Yes. Those two need to do more running and shooting things and growling together because they are far too good at it and I suspect they would end up as an excellent team once they got to know each other. Also Eric doing that whole thing with the big damn rifle was just guuuuuuh and Tom was so watching and in that particular instance he does not get in trouble because WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO WATCH THAT? And then later on, with the whole "you miss it?" line, and hints of EMOTIONAL BONDING, and oh God yes please. Platonically. Or not platonically. Help me.

- Henry Donovan is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MAN. And that is all I am saying right now. I realise this week's ep was big on the action and the drama and the Sixing, but I need more of the politics soon, please. If nothing else, John's conversation with Nilaa and some of the weird looks he keeps doing and the way he's immediately withdrawing from the election is just... it all feels wrong. Either he is a saint amongst lesser mortals and I will be forced to apologise profusely in a few weeks' time, or he is as evil as I first predicted and Rebecca is going to get her heart broken. "This will all be over soon," John says. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? BECAUSE I AM MISSING SOMETHING.

- ANDY AND TOM. AAAAAARGH. This will be my obligatory ANDY AND TOM point for the week. I loved their little comm call, right down to Andy's oh-so-snarky signoff. If they end up making out up against a wall before the end of the season, I win the internet. AND THEY SHOULD BECAUSE IT IS TRADITIONAL.

- The WORST TERRORISTS EVER plotline came to quite a head this week. First I was in DEEP ALARM when I saw all those barrels, and then DODGY TEACHER turned up (I know his name was David Harris but DODGY TEACHER is so much more appropriate) and that was NEVER going to end well. And it didn't. Dodgy Teacher shooting Khasan was a shock, but Amira then stabbing him was even more so, and I guess that's the moment I realised there was no saving her. I'd been sort of wondering if they might try, earlier on in the episode (and last week) but that was definitely the point of no return. And then Khasan was dead and Dodgy Teacher was dead and Amira went off with the Van of Barrels, but not before giving Daddy Dudayev enough motivation (as if he needed more) to break free and then do the sensible thing and CALL THE POLICE.

- Also (this is very out of order, I apologise, it's late and I'm in shock) when Emo Terrorist And Friends were smuggled into the US by Gabriel, why in all the Hells did they PUT THEIR REAL ADDRESS ON THEIR FAKE IDS?! IS THE STUPID CONTAGIOUS?! I realise they were no longer there by the time Eric and Growly Tom and Friends showed up, BUT STILL!!

- The MOMENT Eric said he'd send CTU to get Nicole, I was all NO NO NO, THIS ALWAYS ENDS POORLY and I was so sure she was going to get grabbed by whoever the mole is, only BOOM it's EMO TERRORIST'S GUYS instead. That poor woman is having a VERY VERY BAD DAY. (Currently, Eric is having the worst day, although I think now Nicole might be in second place. And there's scope for her to move into first place. And DID I NOT SAY THAT HAT WAS DANGEROUS?!) Possibly I am not coping well with the SUDDEN and NOT ENTIRELY SURPRISING PERIL that has befallen Nicole. And Isaac. Ohhh, Isaac. I don't fancy his chances much longer, and weirdly that makes me sad. His little line about his current line of work being "the only thing I know how to do" was oddly heartfelt and warrants more time than I have.

- Furthermore, in their last phonecall BEFORE everything went to Hell, NICOLE DIDN'T SAY I LOVE YOU BACK TO ERIC. Do you not REALISE how DANGEROUS it is to do that in this show? YOU'RE ABOUT TO FIND OUT. ARGH!

- THIS EPISODE HAD A LOT OF BIG GUNS.

- The final race to find Amira had me barely breathing, as CTU got the word from Daddy Dudayev's call to the police, and suddenly there was the van, heading over the George Washington Bridge, and my heart was IN MY MOUTH, and then Keith rang POOR HEROIC JENKINS, and I just LOVED that scene where he realised how serious the situation was and hurried straight off to face danger without looking back. And then he leapt in front of the van and SHOT AMIRA and it was so perfect and heroic and then he opened the van to look at her and called Keith and said she looked dead and I just gasped CHECK!! And she wasn't. Quite. And she hit the trigger and the van went up and took Amira and Jenkins with it. And most of the George Washington Bridge. HOLY. FUCK. I can't even. That's got to be one of the worst things that's ever happened in this show. Not quite on a par with the Season Six suitcase nuke, and not quite as gutwrenchingly horrible as Season Three's Chandler Plaza, but... but. God.

- Also, randomly, the camerawork in that scene was FANTASTIC, and the aerial shots of the bridge from top-down were just guuuuuuuuuuuh and yes Jon Cassar directed this one too, however did you guess?

- Rebecca remains awesome. She did not get a lot to do this week but her scene with Eric when he got back to CTU and they were both obviously in shock over what happened was just right.

- A HUNDRED PEOPLE WERE BLOWN UP AND EMO TERRORIST HAS NICOLE AND ISAAC AND ERIC JUST GOT GAINES'D. AND THIS IS NOT GOING TO END WELL. AND EMO TERRORIST NEEDS A NERD TO FIX THE MEMORY STICK OF DOOM. AND IF THIS INVOLVES ANDY IN ANY WAY WITHOUT HIS CONSENT, I AM NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY. OR OK. AND NEITHER IS GROWLY TOM. AND OH GOD, I RECOGNISE THESE HATS TOO.

- SEND HELP.

And then...

...I hit refresh on Facebook shortly after watching the episode and a post pops up from the 24: Legacy page and it says GUESS WHO'S BACK NEXT WEEK? with a large picture of WHO IS BACK NEXT WEEK and I don't think I need to say out loud who that is BECAUSE YOU KNOW FROM ALL THIS CAPSLOCK.

YOU KNOW. AND I KNOW. AND THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. NOT THE SEASON EIGHT RUMOURS, NOR THE LIVE ANOTHER DAY DASHED HOPES. ACTUALLY. HAPPENING.

And I don't even know what to SAY or THINK or ANYTHING and even though I've known this was coming for FIVE MONTHS, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I'M GOING TO DO THIS.

So. Uhm. What more can I say? I'm bracing myself for next week. And then some.

And suddenly... this candle in the window is glowing brighter than the sun.
