Each Sunday, post six sentences from a writing project -- published, submitted, in progress, for your cat -- whatever.
Fanfic #1:
Emma bites the inside of her cheek and watches Regina pour a fresh drink, straight to the glass’s brim, her hands shaking and eyes red-rimmed; putting her drink down on Regina’s desk, Emma bows her head and wraps her arms tight around herself.
“I can’t do this by myself,” she says softly, her voice cracking as she blinks furiously against welling tears. “This isn’t going to be easy, and I can’t-Neal won’t be much help. He just doesn’t know how. And Henry is going to need you. I just don’t think that I can do this without you.”
Regina shakes her head, a sad smile on her face. “You don’t need to stay here for me to help you. You know that.”
“I know.”
Regina stares at her until Emma finishes off her drink just to have something to do, which happens a lot more often around Regina than anyone else. On a different day, that might be something that would bother her.
Fanfic #2:
Daniel leans over Rocinante’s stall and looks at her like she is the oddest person he has ever encountered. “You know how to ride. You do it almost every day.”
Regina huffs and slips to the ground, hay dampened from the moisture in the air clinging to her skirt as she says, “No, I meant-like you ride. But it’s silly. I’m sorry for ever mentioning it.”
She can feel the heat in her face, and she wants to run back to the house and hide in the library, but the rain will ruin her dress and if her mother sees that…. Turning on her heel, Regina strides to the back of the stable to gain the most distance possible between herself and Daniel.
“You always do this, Regina,” Daniel says from behind her, and then he places a gentle hand on her arm. “I simply didn’t understand what you meant. So, you want to learn to ride like a man?”
Regina turns to face him and arches an eyebrow. “I don’t see what is so difficult about it if you can do it.”
He stares down at her for a long moment, so long that her heart hammers in her chest because he looks offended, and she almost cowers back when he grins and laughs. She smiles, hesitantly, and when he curls his fingers around her elbow, she doesn’t pull away.
