Hmm....

Out of curiousity, if I handed you a camera (mine, incidentally) and said "you've got nine minutes of footage that you can record" [before the memory runs out or the battery dies, but I didn't say that] would you automatically think that I've set it on the "taking photos" option rather than left it on the option to record? And would you then try to ( Read more... )

I thought that the whole "you've got nine minutes of footage" thing would be pretty self-explanatory, but apparently not. *lol*

:P I wish I could go back to the days where I was still up by the early hours and could sleep in but alas the schedule at work means that is no longer possible. *g*

*nods* I was rather amused by it. In her defence she did cotton on in the end, but didn't click that the little green picture of a camera meant you could take photos. I know it's a dial filled with lots of images but I would have thought you'd connect the image of a camera with the option to take pictures. *lol*

Thank you! :D

Um...doesn't footage originally refer to feet of film used in moviemaking? Why would she think it was snapshots instead? Strange.

You've got me. I can only guess she sees cameras as something that can only take photos - mine can do both - and therefore it didn't occur to her that it might have been anything difficult despite what I had told her earlier. Also, her memory is shocking at times so I wouldn't be surprised if she had forgotten.

That's true; cameras today are very different from when she was your age. Why, when I was a little girl they didn't even FLASH unless you added a flashbulb to them, so I'd imagine it wouldn't be automatic for her to conceive of them taking video.

I meant "different" there, not "difficult". My fingers weren't keeping up with my brain.

But yeah, I can remember cameras that didn't have flashes,I think anyway, and - more recently - those that did but were crap and you might as well go without. Definitely remember those.

I'm glad cameras have gone digital now. I hated trying to keep track of the film canisters.
