I have a couple of great holiday memories.....
The Christmas before we were married (December 2003), when my mother-in-law gave me a KitchenAid mixer. I love that darn mixer still! I use it to make pizza dough, to bake cookies, to make cakes, for the most drool-worthy buttercream icing... it's an amazing gadget
The winter break that we spent in Mexico (December 2009), while I was 5 months pregnant with Erika. It was Brian, my sister Carol, fetus Erika, and I. I was at that beautiful glowing second trimester phase, where food was delicious and my belly was visibly round but not grotesquely large; and it was our last vacation before children. We stayed at a 5-star Mayan Palace resort, we hung out in the sun on the beach and we swam around the beautiful pools. We checked out local attractions in Cancun, Cozumel, and Tulum. I remember how excited I was to become a mother and how relaxing this last pre-baby vacation was.
The first Christmas Erika was actually excited and looking forward to Christmas (December 2012), and the look on her face on Christmas morning was priceless. The way she looked at the presents under the tree and she started dancing-- her little feet wouldn't stop moving. The way she hugged her presents tight to her chest with the most grateful smile on her face.
This winter break (Christmas 2014) when we went on a family vacation to Cape Canaveral for 6 days/5 nights. The look on Erika's face when she first sees the Disney princesses and Mickey Mouse and his friends on stage. The way the fireworks light up Cinderella's Castle, the way she loved the thrill of the rollercoasters and the rides. The entertainment shows at SeaWorld, the touch exhibits at Kennedy Space Center, the feel of sand under our feet and dancing in the surf.
