im using this time to communicate with you; i hope you’re not insulted.
yesterday i sat down to make you a paper airplane. i was going to fold it up quite elaborately and then stand on top of my chimney so i could sail it all the way to iowa. halfway through the folding i starting having daydreams of it hitting you in the eye and blinding you, or giving you a bloody nose at least. ‘it’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt,’ they say. i suppose my worries might come off as an excuse not to send you the plane. yesterday at work someone told me that ‘excuses are the nails in a house of failure.’ i didn’t like her sweater at all and we both know that stupid sayings like that are only for crazy cat ladies who have never been dancing, so i just nodded my head like she had just quoted gandhi.
in afi’s top 100 movie quotes, casablanca is represented 6 times. i think that’s a little unfair. every movie except the silent ones have a lot of lines and there are thousands of movies and frankly, i think that humphrey bogart or ingrid bergman knew someone on the afi board when the list was made- especially since ‘here’s looking at you, kid’ is at number 5. i mean, ‘nobody puts baby in a corner’ is all the way at 98 and that one literally brings people to their knees with tears of joy! you tell them, patrick.
i was up at 4:30 am this morning, plenty in time to see the snowshovelers and snowplows perform their choreographed routine. or maybe they were just practicing, i don’t know- but it looked pretty polished to me. are we the only town that has this perk for the snow people? i hope not. there was one driver who was a particularly talented tenor. he was singing his scales while he spun around and when he had finished the snow around him was arranged just like the pyramids of egypt! it was glorious. i could tell all of the other drivers were a little jealous of him- he was like the quarterback of the football team. quarterback with quite a set of pipes and a great sense of spatial design.
well, i better get back to work now. please be careful for the next few hours. i did end up sending that airplane and if the wind in nebraska isn’t too intense it should reach you around 8:17 tonight. maybe you should wear your glasses today; i don’t want to send anyone to the emergency room.
