The Olympics - bad & good

The bad

The uniform is just terrible. I hate the colours and the design. The food isn't that great, the hot food looks like slop but the salad is ok, if you don't have it all the time. The shifts are boring, I'm in accreditation in the athletes village but most athletes get accredited at Heathrow or need to see the help desk :( Some days are soooo quiet. We do end up going home early, or at least we did when we were finishing at 11pm.

The good

I am based at the athletes village, which means I can walk around with all the athletes. The USA basketball team aren't based there though :( I've gotten to see so many welcome ceremonies and meet so many athletes.
Most volunteers got to see a rehearsal for the opening ceremony which was amazing, the whole industrial age with the drums was so much more powerful seeing it live!
I have applied to volunteer at Russia 2014 as I would love to work at a winter games so well see.

So far I am loving being a volunteer except that 'unoffically' volunteers can take up empty seats in the venues as long as there isn't a large group, us being in the vilage prob won't get that opportunity. Also as I dare say anything bad about anything - shifts with too many perople, bad food, etc then I shouldn't be a gamesmaker! Thats from someone on FB who set up a page for GMs to meet. Others have agreed with me and most of the people I work with think the same but to her it doesn't matter.
