School Post - SSC251 #2

Another cab ride to school this morning! Sheesh. I should really learn to wake up early. I'll probably save like over a hundred dollars every month! Putting that aside, the lecture this morning (though I missed the first half of it), was quite interesting. The lecturer talked about the various disciplines i.e. Psychology, Sociology, History, etc and their approaches to studying religion. It was interesting to see what motivates scholars from each discipline to strip religion down to its basics within the scope of each's expertise.

The second half of the lecturer was devoted to discussion of two articles: 1) Cattle (or Cow) and its symbolism in India/Hindu religion, 2) Secularization and Religion in China. She summed up this morning's lecture on the various research methods used in studying religion. She differentiated the Positivism versus Interpretism methods, emphasizing that in social sciences, we can use actually both methods even though Positivism is mainly used in Natural Sciences awhile Intepretismn is mainly used in humanities. She went through quite a few things that were explained in depth in SSC109 - Introduction to Social Sciences.

Now I wish I had taken that up that module first before emabarking on the religion module. Oh well. Better planning next time. I'm most likely to do some more changes to my study plan as I think its more advisable to take SSC109 before i take up the Research Methods and Data Analysis module.

Anyway's I'm here at Parkway Parade now, enjoying my cup of coffee while waiting for Missy Brown to turn up. I think this weekend and the next is going to be awesome.

Cheers!
