~Where the Wild Things Are~

Oct 20, 2009 20:10

So I skipped class today to go and see Where the Wild Things Are (bad Rhee, I know) and I have to say that that was most definitely one of the best things I've ever done in my life. The movie was spectacular, and I fell in love with all of the characters the second I saw them. They were all so...realistic in a way that's unreal and it made me feel like I was a little kid again. The theatre was empty except for one other guy who left halfway through the movie, so I was all curled up on the seats with my free popcorn (my local movie theatre rocks on Tuesdays) and fell in love with probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. The whole entire concept of innocence was like, BAM! You could feel the childhood demeanor and when Max sort of kind of lost his innocence. It made me so, so sad at the end, and yes, I was a sniffling mess in the empty theatre. It's okay though, because I loved the movie, so sniffling messes are okay when amazing movies are involved.
There were parts of the movie that made me feel were too violent or mature for a PG rating, and I was really glad that there were no little kids in the theatre because I've heard where kids were crying or screaming at the screen because it scared/upset them. I almost feel like this movie should create a new rating, like pg-10 or something like that. It really didn't feel PG to me. The theme of innocence and loss of said ~quality~ was really strong in the movie, and I actually felt myself turn all innocent for a little, tiny part of the movie before losing it. I really fell into the character, the filming was amazing and in the one hour and thirty-eight minutes of that movie, I fell into a fantasy world that I really didn't want to leave when the movie ended.
Unfortunately, I feel like Where the Wild Things Are will not receive the spotlight that it deserves, but I'm sure that it will have a cult following, just like all those other cult-following-worth movies, but this one will be grander. Where the Wild Things Are was a movie that I loved, adored, and I know that the second it comes out on DVD, I will not be hesitating in picking up myself a copy.
15 out of 10 stars, and that's no lie.

Oh Max...

And now I shall leave you, but first.

LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!
