106. TEN things you want at your funeral.

Jun 11, 2008 16:13

1) My mother
2) My father
3) My little sister
4) My friends. Those who knew me as Ana, preferably.
5) I would like to be cremated, so I suppose, my urn.
6) A picture beside the urn. Something candid, nothing stiff and posed.
7) Part of me wishes desperately for music, but so many times in my life I've attended a funeral where they have played a song, and you can simply never listen to the same song in way you did before. I don't want to ruin a song for anyone, so I would rather there be no songs sung.
8) Two passages read from Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet." The one titled On Joy and Sorrow, and the one titled On Death.
9) Flowers...though preferably potted flowers rather than cut flowers.
10) Nothing religious. My mother...won't like this. But I have a complicated relationship with God that doesn't fit into any denomination. I would rather my funeral be a quiet remembrance of my life, not a chance for a pastor to preach words I scarcely believe to those I've left behind.
