Part II:
Andrew groaned. He turned his head to bury his face in his pillow. He stopped when he heard soft breathing beside him.
Theodore’s eyes fluttered, sensing the movement and change in breathing from next to him. He twisted his neck, drawing his head away from the light, though it didn’t cause the throbbing pain Andrew felt.
“Stasie- how big you’ve gotten.” Andrew grumbled.
“Good morning to you, too.” Theodore said, carefully to continue his act.
“Were we really that drunk last night?” Andrew rubbed his temples.
“No, you’re just that much of a fox.” Theodore growled playfully.
Andrew made a scoffing noise. “What did we do? And what did you put in the wine?”
“I didn’t put anything in it.” Theodore said, truthfully.
“Mm.” Andrew nodded. “I haven’t been so out of control in a long time.”
“I…” Theodore stumbled. “We both had quite a lot… it was mutual.” He lied, again. His eyes were soft as he gazed at his friend.
“I should go home.”
“No… And’… You’re not in a state to go home.” Theodore said, too quickly.
Andrew’s red brow furrowed, “Have I heard that, before?”
“We ended up passing out together last night.” Theodore provided.
“Point made.” Andrew laid his head back down. “Stasie probably won’t be any more angry with me if I come home now or in a few hours, anyway.”
Theodore smiled softly.
“Yer making me hot.”
“What?” Theodore’s eyes widened.
“You’re close… it’s too warm in here, already.”
“Oh, oh yes… of course. Sorry.” Theodore nodded wildly and scooted back a bit, separating their bodies.
Andrew breathed slowly.
Theodore lay awake watched him silently, while he slept.

Andrew watched with an amused look as Theodore rocked Anastasie in his arms, cooing to her as one would an infant. He nuzzled her soft fur with his noise.
Her copper eyes turned to Andrew, silently begging for release and escape.
“I love your cat.” Theodore stated, cradling her against his chest.
“I can see that.”
Anastasie let out a low meow. She squirmed against his grasping hands. When he didn’t put her down she meowed again.
Theodore reluctantly set her on her feet on the floor, where she promptly scurried away as quickly as her legs would carry her, red tail swishing in the air.
“You could get one of your own, you know.”
“That’s what Elizabeth said.”
Andrew quirked an eyebrow.
“Except… she meant a baby. Not a cat.”
“There’s a slight difference.” Andrew said, flatly.
“In acquiring one, for certain. For a cat, I can just wait until James finds a new litter in his office…”
“Can you imagine the look on his face if he found a baby on his doorstep? He’d have kittens.”
“Our Jamie would make a good father.”
“To a baby, or to a litter of kittens?”
“Either.”
“I’ll be sure to pass that on.” Andrew snorted.
“That he should rescue one of the next litter for me, or that he’d be a good father?”
“Both.” Andrew rolled his eyes skyward. “He already has one cat, too, you know… from the same litter as Stasie.”
Theodore smiled, “I know… played with him when I went over for dinner last week. He came inside filthy, again. James about had a fit… I don’t think anyone would believe that Lane is white, unless you just saw James clean him up…”
Andrew laughed quietly. He thought for a moment, “Are you quite sick of it? All the women you know telling you to hurry up and get married, so you can start a family.”
“They mean well…”
“It’s just so bloody annoying. I don’t see why they should care so much if I’ve a wife and children, or not.”
“A family is a sort of standard. They assume everybody wants one.” Theodore replied softly.
“I didn’t mean they were a bad thing… families.”
“I know.”
Andrew’s brow furrowed, eyes narrowing. “Teddy…” He stopped, feeling as though a hand had been placed on his chest, restraining him.
Theodore forced a smile.
“Never mind.” Andrew shook his head.
“My sisters did that to me, once.” Theodore said, after a moment.
“Did what?”
“New baby, not a little sister like they’d hoped. So they put me in a basket, set me down on the neighbor’s front step, knocked and quickly hid.”
“I bet it gave your mum a right scare.”
“She was so busy she never realized I was gone. The girls were apparently pretty crafty about it. The neighbor figured out what happened and came over a few minutes later, asking if Mum has lost anything.”
“More than happy to get a fussy and scared baby back to his mum?”
“Eh… I apparently slept through the entire ordeal. I was a quiet baby, anyway.”
“That solid of a sleeper from the beginning?” Andrew laughed quietly.
Theodore smiled softly.
“I suppose I should tell a story about my childhood, now…”
“I haven’t heard much. Just a few things, here or there. Though I suppose you don’t really have any sibling stories, your brothers being so much older.”
“I’ve a few. Plus, I have sister-in-law horror stories.”
“You liked one of them, didn’t you?”
“Mary, yes. Unlike Susan and Nancy, she didn’t patronize me, or coddle me… or pinch my cheeks.”
“I remember you saying you’d be sore for days, sometimes.”
Andrew could sense Theodore was subtly baiting him to continue. He also knew it didn’t matter what they talked about, so long as they were talking.
“I’m sure your older sisters got quite mothering. You know what that’s like.” He cocked an eyebrow slightly. “It was like having four mums for me…”
“Yes…”
