title: to hate you
pairing: reita/ruki
rating: PG-13
summary: dirty rotten scumbag
[heavily inspired by
hotarubi & I's reita/ruki dynamics, I borrowed some of her dialogue to fit into the fic.]
They're(he's) not the same.
And reita's not going to pretend to be.
"I'm going out." The distance gives him time to think but he loses his footing in thoughts that seem scattered and it feels like he's stuck in a storm drain. It's getting harder to decipher sentences from garbled noises and at times the urge to watch every last bit of his skull shatter across the pavement rises.
Just like a suicide victim.
When he comes back the sound of dishes scrapes over the counter, Ruki's irritated, and he's half past caring as he discards his shoes into the low set entrance way. "I got us beer and cigarettes, but I figured you'd pass on them since they're not you're brand. You okay?" The words come out low and measured and he figures he's only saying them out of nature rather than concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
He's not buying it. The bag crinkles as he retrieves two aluminum cans, pushing one into Ruki's hand and Reita's treating the beer in his palm like it's god's gift to the world before pulling the tab on the one still clutched between his fingers."We've got two days to do nothing so I'm going to hibernate."
"Do what you want, if you decide I'm worth your time come see me."
"What do you want us to do? Something cliche like go to the movies or runaway until we find a place where the road ends." It's disgusting how cynical he sounds, almost painfully humorous at how upset Ruki is as he tries to off set the way every word rushes over him. But despite it all he can't help but try to ignore it by tearing at the cellophane clutched in-between his hands to retrieve a cigarette.
"You figure it out."
There's a moment of silent consideration as Ruki walks off before the lighter finds it's way towards his cigarette, igniting the cylinder and slowly dying off under the pressure of his thumb. He's a few measured footsteps behind Ruki and he's not saying a word as Ruki stares into the reflected image of his face. A few minutes pass where they simply listen to the sound of their own breathing and the lack of noise is so deafeningly quiet that Reita swears he can hear Ruki thinking. When Ruki finally turns around he watches the lazy trails of smoke catch in the open air, leaving phantom copies of long lost ghosts between them before the ash settles at his feet.
Reita knows that Ruki can hear the sound of him destroying everything.
A hand reaches outwards to stitch it's way beneath Ruki's jaw, tenderly curling them beneath his chin, and putting more meaning than necessary into the gesture. The cigarette falls somewhere near Reita's side as he pushes forward to tenderly press his nose against Ruki's temple and turning so he can kiss at the seam of Ruki's lips before glancing at him through the corner of his eyes. "You already understood what you were getting into."
Reita was never going to apologize for fucking Uruha. He'd already understood the train wreck he was walking into and Ruki wasn't going to act like an injured victim because he understood the dynamics at which Reita worked.
"Keep following me down the rabbit hole alice."
