Prompt: Absent in the Spring
Her head aches, the skin tight over her skull. She raises a hand to touch and her fingertips graze her hair. Off in the distance, she sees some hills, mountains maybe? So she stumbles to her feet, starts walking.
The first day, Jess doesn’t seen anyone. She’s decided that a day is when she’s counted her steps into the thousands and she begins to stumble and fall. The sun, high over a landscape no one could call welcoming, never sets. She tries not to wonder why she can walk until she falls down but there is not a drop of sweat.
She moves forward.
Until one day, she stumbles. Falls into the gravel on this road and feels the ground shudder open beneath her. Before Jess can scream, she rolls beneath the earth.
And it is quiet and cool and a change.

The Man in the Brown Suit
“It’s brown.” Ronon frowned.
And now Rodney was frowning too.
“Yes, what of it? Well, it’s really more of a dark beige, I think. What’s wrong with brown, anyway?”
Ronon shrugs, puts the suit coat back on the pile of items Rodney’s snatched off the rack to take into the dressing rooms.
“Dunno. Not really your color, I guess.”
“Not my color? Did Elizabeth and Teyla make you watch What Not to Wear again?” Two weeks of enforced downtime had created some scary situations. If Rodney lived to be 112, he hoped to never see Major Lorne asking Cadman, in all seriousness, whether he was a winter or a fall.
“Nope. Just seems like you’d want something to maybe match your eyes. They’re pretty.”
Rodney nearly swallowed his tongue.
“Pretty?”
Ronon smiled, wide and honest. Rodney felt a little intimidated with a healthy side order of warm happy.
“Yeah, pretty.”
