A review by Sergei Starkowski
The author named it Projection Paranoia Swine, after an alleged Andreas Baader quote, but you might as well dub it The Meinhof de Sade Complex, a nod in the direction of the R.A.F. movie, and the Peter Weiss play the text is loosely based upon
It is not your mama's theater, more like punk panic performance shenanigans with Surrealist and Neoist?! overtones: some poetry here, a bit realism there, a touch theosophy, a sprinkle philory, and lots of plagiarism, accompanied by an original music score, created and mixed live by Ukr.tele.kom
We have Juliette with a split personality disorder and Joan of Arc syndrome, going apeshit in a music cage
We have Jean Paul Marat on Hartz Vier (welfare), senile, wheelchair-bound, spitting drunken tirades like a retarded retired grandpa in a DDR Kneipe (waterhole)
Marquis de Sade in a BDSM jockstrap and a Tory wig, preaching polyamory, libertarianism, and permanent revolution - all the while wondering if the characters are but figments of his imagination
The rapping Assyrian yuppie guru-like Warden - a trickster, charging admission to enter the invisible Mausoleum of Anarchy and eyeball the mummy of Rebellion, and #metooing Justine - a blindfolded poetic justice statuette of an innocent and obedient sexSlavic Putzfrau (housemaid) seeking asylum
The Greek chorus sirens, writhing as go-go’ing Gogol ("bordello") girls: strippers gone berserk, all litanies and glossolalias, dei ex machina
All this madness directed by a Belorussian dissident mad professor, transpiring inside a shabby WC room of a basement, which belongs to a notorious Berlin theater squatting Marxist collective, and may or may not be intended as a replica of Charenton mental asylum, where the notorious Marquise de Sade staged his outrageous plays, the patients cast in the roles of characters his feverish mind chanelled into reality
It’s a live kino/theater piece, and hence a paparazzo filmScrewing and boom-pamming SWAT team hustles amidst the action, streaming it live and projecting on 2 large screens for the audience (which may or may not mirror Sade's contemporary spectators - the clinic's staff: doctors, wardens and guards)
Will you remain seated, transfixed by the spectacle? Will you walk out, stage jump, or break character and the fourth wall?
Up to you...
