As a peace offering to Jackie (since I didn't really mean to cause a proper row yesterday), Rose and I took Tony out for a bit of an adventure today. We found a theme park that's aimed at families and small children with some nice rides and animals and all sorts of things like that! It was rather fun, if quite tiring, even for me. We've looked after Tony before, of course, but I always forget how much energy it takes!
Tony was a bit small for a lot of the bigger rides (and I think some of them would have been a bit scary for him) but some of them we could go with him on!
We got a little bit damp! :D Rose sat in the front, Tony in the middle and me in the back. He thought it was brilliant. Rose ended up being rather glad she'd not worn a light coloured t shirt.
This one was way too big for Tony, of course. The queue was dead short, so Rose and I took turns looking after Tony so we could have a quick go. It was rather fun. And, of course, my expert knowledge of physics allowed me to calculate which the best seats on the ride were quite easily. Tony wasn't particularly impressed with this. Nor was he impressed that he was too small, but we pointed out that he got to go on the bouncy castle and the caterpillar roller coaster and that Rose and I weren't allowed (and I liked the look of that bouncy castle!).
This one was good! Tony shared a double seat with Rose the first time and me the second time. Rose and I experimented to see if we could hold hands in mid flight while on separate seats, but the man running the ride told us off for that. Bit silly, really, since we weren't compromising the safety of ourselves, much less anyone else.
The teacup ride! :D A classic, of course. Wouldn't be a theme park without one. Bit of hard work though - to turn the tea cup around you have to turn the wheel in the centre. Tony reckoned he could do it all by himself, but I had to loosen things up with the sonic screwdriver before that was possible. He then told Rose and me to help anyway, since he didn't like that we were just going to cuddle. Apparently that's "gross".
Another classic:
The swinging pirate ship! Tony, of course, wanted to go right at the end where the ride is most fun, but the bloke organising the queue thought he'd be happier closer to the middle. Tony sulked a bit at that, but he enjoyed the ride and we bought him an ice cream after that and soon he'd forgotten about the sulking. Rose implied that it was just as easy to stop me sulking and then... bought me an ice cream to stop me complaining. I think she may have proved her own point there, but I got ice cream, so I'm not overly bothered.
This was a Wind in the Willows... thing. I'm not quite sure what. The terrifying and alien looking pictures ensured we stayed well away. Tony wasn't fussed, of course, but they looked far too much like Yeuroprides for me to be comfortable entering a building with them painted on the outside. I've promised Tony I'll read him the Wind in the Willows instead.
Tony's coaster of choice! Not too big, and not too small.
Little bit on the small side for me and Rose, of course, but Tony was too small for the bigger roller coaster:
After we did all that, we also went and looked at the animals in the zoo-type area. It was... thoroughly depressing.
The meerkats were cute, of course, but their enclosure was ridiculously small.
And the penguins looked like they lived in a swimming pool!
Some of the animals did have a lot more space, of course, but some were even worse. The pelicans and the flamingos had tiny little enclosures with only an itty bitty (and thoroughly grubby looking) pond.
SO. I HAVE MADE A DECISION. These animals need to be freed or relocated to somewhere better. I may have to make a night time mission of this. Rose, of course, is more than welcome to join me, but I decided that since Tony is still a bit young for that sort of thing I wouldn't mention it today. Since neither of us are working at the moment, it sounds like an ideal trip to make one night, after the park is all closed.
I just hope we can avoid the Yeuroprides on the Wind in the Willows thing.
Finally, one thing that did amuse me slightly:
I kept my shirt on, as requested. I did suggest to Rose that since the sign only specifically mentioned "gentlemen", she might care to cool off in the air without her shirt (it was a very warm day, so I thought it was a very... gentlemanly offer). She wasn't so impressed with my logic, but I suppose there were really too many people around.
And now, I think we're heading back to Jackie's for dinner. Tony can't make up his mind whether he's "starving" because we've dared deprive him of tea until 7pm, or completely full because he's had candy floss and ice cream as well as the picnic today.
