ROSE, HAVE YOU SEEN THE TOASTER?

I was going to make some toast, but I can't find him anywhere. I had to use the grill and it got burned and everything. Although it was all right once I'd scraped off the black bits and put some jam on it. That new jam I got is very nice - you should try some ( Read more... )

Well it's not really my business to stop them going anywhere (any more than Jackie could GPS Rose - the Toaster is effectively an adult in terms of robot development, after all). They vanish into parts of the house all the time, but this is the first time Wall-E has been worried.

With apologies to my wife and in-laws for belabouring the point: Jackie and Pete created Rose (and now Tony).

In order to create true artificial intelligence, control must be sacrificed. They are creatures in their own right and attempting to treat them as slaves would be wrong. I can use my sonic to shut them off but I have to treat that with the same seriousness they would treat smacking me around the head with a lump of metal and knocking me out. We are recognised as parent creatures and house owners and beings of (mostly) superior intelligence, but not as owners.
