I'm at the airport!
I am less than ten hours away from seeing you again! :D :D :D :D :D :D
(Oh, and happy birthday, Pete! I bought you a cowboy hat. It seemed appropriate. I'll give you a fiver if you wear it to the next Vitex Charity doodah.)
ANYWAY, since at least Rose will be interested: there were aliens! It was a species I'd actually never seen before, so I don't have a name for you to badly (yet adorably) mispronounce. I can make one up if you like?
Turns out these creatures don't have a corporeal body the same way you are I do. They're quite happy that way, though - not like the Gelth or the Wire. They'd sort of settled into Judy's house (and some of the surrounding houses) and were regaining strength after a flight across the cosmos. I could only hear them because I'm me, you could hear them because you're a bit more perceptive than the average human, and looking at Judy's family tree... I think she's got a bit of not-quite-human in her from eight generations back, guessing by that surname. Since her family only moved to Callahan when she was a child, she's the only one in the area, and therefore the only one who could hear it. Aside from us, of course.
Anyway, the little things were regaining their strength and basically over the coming months would become more and more annoying. They'd be about to interrupt signals and cause power cuts and more and more people would start to see/hear them. Like poltergeists, in a way. Except real.
Fortunately, I managed to get them to relocate somewhere with no people, and they'll move on and find a new planet in a generation, anyway. Judy gave me some more cookies to say thank you. I have a long flight ahead of me, but I shall endeavour to save some for you.
And now it is nearly time to board the plane. I might go and spent the last of my dollars on some duty free chocolate! :D
