The Church and Its Orbs - A Problem

Possible material for The Church and Its Orbs. One of my characters decided to go off in a completely unexpected direction that may or may not stay. Characters -- they do weird shit sometimes.

---------

“I still can’t believe you got drunk and ended up in the Divine Realm,” Wren mutters. “I’m impressed.”

My face flushes, and I narrow my eyes her. )

Do you think the whole "Kai has a drinking problem" story works? That was so unintentional and not something I would have ever thought of on purpose. But I needed to write words, and those are the words that came out. Brandon's fear of spiders was also random and unintentional, if a whole lot sillier. If I keep that in, there's a billion percent chance they'll end up fighting a giant spider at some point.

I can't help myself with the goofy closet jokes. Gemma ends up in a closet, too, at one point. Actually, the first time I ever wrote Gemma in a closet was an accident because I wasn't trying to make a joke -- she just needed somewhere to hide and a literal closet happened to be the nearest place in the hallway. Yes, in my world, queer characters are 1000x more likely to end up in the closet that straight ones. Because I like to keep my symbolism on the silly side.

I also tried to hint at attraction between Wren and Brandon -- did that work? In this, part of Gemma's sniping at Brandon for fearing spiders was because she saw him as a love rival and thus didn't like that much. Of course, it would help if she understood her sexuality better and didn't have to resort to laughing at someone's phobia.
