Poor Gemma. =/ It's just so obvious that her whole family treats her as this giant outsider and it's only going to get worse.

Ruby so far is only coming across as an older sibling to me, though, and not entirely awful. I'm sure that'll change eventually. :)

It's possible Ruby might not be as awful as I thought she was. I think she is probably still a bad guy, but I'm not discounting the possibility that she at least has layers. Layers are good, right? Characters will be themselves, as I'm sure you know, haha.

And poor Gemma is so very much the Unfavorite. I think the only way for her to get her family to "like her better" is to make a "chosen family" from scratch.

Layers are very good. Having her not all bad is good, and it creates a great dynamic within the story. I don't believe anyone is either all good or all bad, but rather a mixture of the two. And it depends on the situation, etc. So I like what you're doing with Ruby here and giving her more depth to her personality :)

I have no idea what I'm doing with Ruby, to be honest. I guess I'm just letting her develop and seeing where she goes. That said, I don't think she's entirely a cartoonish villain, at the very least, even if she is a bad guy. And I don't 100% know how bad she'll even be.
