This is Part Twenty Three in
The Meeting of Breccan & Finbar previous chapter ---------
“Be careful not to spill any coffee on the books. They're spelled against dirt, dust and other damage, but I don't want you taking any chances,” Maris said.
(
We were in Maris' magical library in order to research the odd phenomena that had recently occurred. )

Breccan's little off hand comment about Isabel not being able to read? Yeah, I see why she attacked him. It just came across as unnecessarily bitchy and superior of him. "Oh, it's okay if you don't know how to read." Bitch, she was trying not to say that and then you go and spill that? Dude, that's kinda fucked up. She was obviously uncomfortable with this fact.
Your story, man. lolol

I hope he doesn't pull any "I totally think you're a person even though you're oddly colored" or You Are a Credit to Your Race BS on Maris. She, at least, would smack him down for that, though.
Oh man, I hope this isn't going to turn into a "world of total assholes" story. I like likable characters, dammit! lol

And Isabel's kind of unpleasant, too... although I think it's understandable for an intelligent person to be ultra-sensitive about not knowing something most smart people would know. So yeah. But still, Breccan kind of didn't do anything wrong in this chapter, and everyone just shat on him anyway. (I didn't think he meant to be condescending to Isabel, although I can see how people not coming from his level of privilege might feel differently.) I felt sorry for him.
I also LOLed at Maris telling him not to spill his coffee on the book.
