The Tomorrow Series Fanfiction: Who Will Lead Us? - Speak Now (Missing Wedding Scene)

Dec 17, 2012 13:03

This is a missing scene from my Tomorrow Series fanfiction " Who Will Lead Us?" -- I started the story after this scene, but I'm feeling like it might have been good to include it.

Jazz bit his lip as he entered the hotel, his stomach twisting. He slowly made his way to the the front desk.

“I'm here for the - wedding,” he said, his voice faltering on “wedding.” This particular wedding shouldn't be happening. He couldn't think about that, though. After all, Jazz was one of Savin's groomsmen, never mind that Savin didn't even want to get married.

The desk clerk smiled as she pointed towards a hallway with a fancy carpet. “Down the hall and to the left. You can't miss it,” she said.

Jazz would rather miss it, but he nodded in thanks to the clerk, not trusting his voice. Hesitantly, he walked down the hallway. Soon enough he saw a sign labeled “Men's Dressing Room.” Sighing, Jazz entered. Savin was already there, along with Ryin and his best man, Dr. Chase.

“Hey Savin, Ryin. Dr. Chase” Jazz bit his lip again. He couldn't look at Savin so easily, not after what Savin had said last night at his bachelor party.

Dr. Chase said, “Oh, please call me John.”

Jazz nodded. “Okay, John.” Both Savin and Dr. Chase - John smiled at him, though he had trouble returning their smiles.

He started getting ready, taking his time, as if that could actually prevent the wedding from happening. Trying to ignore the happy chatter about Savin's future wife, Jazz tied his tie. He noticed Savin's own tie was crooked. Of course it was. Savin never could tie a tie.

Somewhat reluctantly, Jazz approached him. “Your tie is crooked. Here, let me fix that for you.”

Without waiting for an answer, he reached for Savin's tie and started fixing it, doing his best to ignore how the other man shivered at his touch. Savin was getting married.

That fact weighed on Jazz as he finished with Savin's tie and they all went to take their places. Jazz was hardly aware of what he was doing as they lined up. His stomach sank as he waited, trying not to bite his lip as the flower girls and bridesmaids came in. Soon enough, Mari would show, and Savin would - Jazz didn't want to think about it anymore.

Too bad he couldn't ignore reality as Mari walked down the aisle, beautiful and positively beaming. His brain nearly shut down, though he did hear the judge ask everyone to “speak now or forever hold your peace.”

Jazz wanted to speak now. He bit his lip to prevent the words from spilling out of his mouth. As much as he may have wanted to say something, he couldn't. This wasn't just some fling for Savin, unfortunately. Nobody else said anything, of course, though a part of Jazz had hoped they would.

He didn't hear much after that, the rest of the ceremony passing in a sickening blur. When Savin and Mari kissed as - as husband and wife, Jazz felt his eyes sting, and not from joy. If he weren't mistaken, Savin himself didn't look so joyful during and after the kiss, not like Mari did. Why did he have to sacrifice his chance to be with Jazz for a woman he didn't even seem to want?

Numbly, Jazz followed everyone to the ballroom. Darkness had already fallen, letting moonlight spill onto the now-empty dance floor. The band started playing a slow, romantic song. Well, it would be romantic to Jazz if it weren't going to be Savin and Mari dancing to it.

The newlyweds walked onto the dance floor and began dancing. Jazz crossed his arms over his chest as he watched the moonlight shine on the couple.

“Beautiful, isn't it?” Dr. Chase - John said.

“Y-yeah,” Jazz managed.

If Jazz ignored that it was Mari and not him up there, he could say it was beautiful. His stomach twisted, and he bit his lip. Jazz's eyes stung, and he - he couldn't take this anymore. He couldn't just stand there watching Savin with someone else who didn't even make him happy.

Once the painful moonlit dance was over, Jazz vowed to look for Savin and get him alone. Too bad Savin was almost always surrounding by people congratulating him. Jazz exited in the reception room, unable to take being in there any longer. He leaned against the wall in a small, empty hallway. Nobody would bother him here, at least.

Jazz's eyes stung, and his shoulders shook. Why? he thought. Jazz knew Savin had gotten married only because of his daughter, Danni. He had said as much at his bachelor party. But, again, why did he have to do that? It wasn't like Savin had to marry Mari in order to be there for his child.

“Jazz? Are you okay?” That voice. It was Savin.

For a moment, Jazz didn't believe it. What would Savin even be doing back here? Jazz tried to wipe away the tears and glared up at Savin. “What do you think? Do you care now?”

“Jazz - of course I care if you're upset,” he said.

“If you cared so much, why did you do it?” Jazz demanded, voice hard.

Savin asked, “Do what?”

“Get married?”

He paused. “I wanted to?”

Jazz shook his head. “Nope.”

"What makes you think that?" Savin looked at Jazz oddly.

"You said so," Jazz muttered.

"What?" he asked.

Jazz dared to look Savin directly in the eye. "Last night, when you were drunk.”

That discomfited Savin. The memory dawned for him, realization showing on his face. “I - I was drunk.”

“That's not an excuse, Savin. You still said it.” Jazz's eyes stung again, and he thought tears might start spilling from them once more. He didn't want to cry in front of Savin. “You didn't want to get married, but you did it anyway. So don't say you care if I'm upset.”

“I - I still care, Jazz,” he muttered. He did sound sincere to Jazz, who could see the hurt and regret in Savin's eyes.

“Then why'd you do it?” Jazz whispered, taking a step towards Savin.

He sighed, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “I had to.”

“No - no you didn't. You could have had me,” Jazz cried softly.

Then, Jazz simply couldn't handle it. He leaned up and kissed Savin, unable to help himself or contain his feelings anymore. Jazz saw Savin's eyes widen before he closed his own. Savin kissed him back, pushing him against the wall. Jazz wrapped his arms around the other man, pulling him closer.

Savin even tried to deepen the kiss. Jazz let him, nearly losing himself in the feeling of the other man's lips and tongue. Unfortunately, he couldn't lose himself, frustration and reality quickly hitting him. Why was Savin kissing him when the man was just married? What was he doing?

Jazz pushed him away. He stood there facing Savin, breathing already ragged. “You - you didn't even kiss Mari like that after saying 'I do.' Why did you marry her? And, shit, what - what am I doing?” Jazz's voice wavered and cracked. He paused. “I - I should go. I'm sorry. Um, congratulations.”

Before Savin could even say anything, Jazz ran out of there. His eyes stung as he left. What kind of mistake had Jazz just made?
