NaNo Ridiculousness Day 1

Nov 02, 2012 20:47

This is the stuff from the first (VERY long) day for my NaNo project, "I Prefer the Mind Control" which I actually started earlier. Therefore, this may not actually make sense, but I figured I should put it up here. Also, everything in "I Prefer the Mind Control" should be considered NSFW.

Dude, I fucking love Dylan. Like I really do. I don't care how ridiculous this story is or its premise or any of the characters -- it's fun as hell to read just as it has to be fun as hell for you to write. There's so many things about this that I just love.

Also I adore your lack of foreshadowing that is actually subtle. At the same time, this may be because you've actually told me about your plans for this story over all so I know what's going to happen next. But at the same time, it just makes me giggle.

I also love that Dylan breaks the fourth wall all of the fricken time and I love the lampshades. Lampshade everything, plx. It amuses me.

He is a hell of a lot of fun to write. This story is ridiculous, and the protagonist is a Sue, and somehow I think it works because it's just so ridiculous in an awesome way, lol. At least I like to this it is! :)

Dylan is always going to the Home Depot equivalent in his word on account of having to constantly repair the (fourth) walls he breaks and get new lampshades for hanging. He runs out of those VERY quickly!

Subtle foreshadowing? I no haz. Haha, glad I could make you giggle. :)

Lololol. I love that Dylan is kind of a huge Sue but you manage to make it work with the meta and the lampshading. Verrrrry impressive. I guess the full extent of his Sue-ness isn't apparent in day 1, but I have read day 2 already, mwuahahahaha.

Hmmm, trying to remember intelligent and pertinent things after reading like 5k words is hard. Dr. Merrico is... quite special. The fucking exclamation points! Hahahah.

I really like the cute Earth accent and how it becomes a running gag.

And also the explanation of the translator, even though I personally think the idea behind a universal translator is fairly plausible. It's a huge database that stores the mechanics of all known languages and uses it to extrapolate how new one would work. What's really implausible is how fast it always seems to work on a new language and how rarely it completely fails. But most shows that I've seen using them do have at least one fail. Yes, I have put way too much thought into this because I am a huge dork. Live long and prosper.

I'm glad I'm making Dylan's ridiculous Sue-ness work because, according to the Mary Sue Litmus Test, not all writers are skilled enough to do that. I'm not saying I'm like super-duper skilled or anything, but it's cool I have enough skill to make it work in this context. Dylan's endless supply of lampshades helps a looooooot, doesn't it?

Good point on the Universal Translator, haha.

As promised, I have started reading your NaNo novel! I am a bit lost though... I remember a bit from a section before this, right? I couldn't find it! Or maybe I am confused.

Anyway, the writing here is solid, especially for a NaNo. It's far more coherent than my NaNo novel, that's for sure. which is really impressive and it's less flimsy than you seem to think it is :)

Your dialogue is also great between the characters and fun to read. The characters are both fun to read, and I like Dylan a lot.
