Have just torrented Ferry Corsten's new album LEF. There's the good, the bad, and the fucking surprising
1. Good, as previously mentioned Fire with Simon Le bon, watch out being the other notable, LEF sounds sort of like Alter Ego but less evil, bleepy noisy, sort of like a arcade machine. Howard Jones (what is love) features on Into the Dark a more atmospheric pop song to counterpoint Fire's upbeat fun. Forever is a nice squelchy electro disco number, Watch out is sort of in the mould of whatever/Rock Your Body from Right of way and the current single. I'd say most of material is quite strong to very good.
2. the bad; too many dull, ballady type pop songs although that's really only a couple and Galaxia is an old Moonman track. goes a bit weak in the middle.
3. Fucking surprising?
Junk ft. guru , a Rock-Hip-Hop-Big-Beat mash up of Ferry Corsten's Punk (One of my "greatest records of all time" loves) the stripped down bassy snarling breakbeat electro monster Ferry unleashed in 2002. when it started I was thinking this sounds just like a 2006 version of classic oldschool electro, (when it was still hip hop), it wasn't till the squiggly electro line from Punk came in that I realised what it was. Ferry's added a big old guitar chord hook, and it's not made the track Shit (it actually makes the track good and it would be less good without it!), the big beat drums and rap make the whole thing a whole lot of fun, and at 2:39 it's a short sharp slap in the face.
