"The systems are coming back up but we have to go through them one at a time," Rodney explained over the headset, "I'm afraid its going to be a few hours until everything is fully functional."
Elizabeth tapped her ear piece and responded, "Understood. We'll just have to wait this one out." She smiled apologetically at her companion. Teyla smiled back serenely.
The two women had been the only ones in the main conference room when the emergency doors began sealing off sections of Atlantis. Fortunately, Rodney and Radek were already at work, looking for a solution to the situation.
At least the possibility of contagion had been ruled out. Now all they could do was wait.
"We're in no danger, except maybe for boredom," Elizabeth shrugged apologetically, "I can't say that I'm sorry to have company for the duration."
In fact Elizabeth was quite happy to not have to wait out this minor crisis on her own. Teyla had been the only other person who had been on time for the post mission debrief. "Typical," she thought.
"Shall we continue with the scheduled meeting?" Teyla inquired.
Elizabeth shook her head, "Radek said that all we can do right now is sit back and relax. I, for one, intend to take this opportunity to do just that."
Teyla dark eyes sparkled with mischief as she warmly regarded her friend, "You definitely do not seize such opportunities often enough."
Nodding ruefully, Elizabeth was forced to agree to that assessment. However the same could be said for the woman sitting next to her.
Although Teyla always seemed so outwardly calm, Elizabeth always had a fleeting sense that there was so much more going on under the surface. Elizabeth was looking forward to learning more about her beautiful friend. Sighing to herself. she firmly stamped down on the frisson of attraction that was always there whenever she found herself thinking of Teyla. Which was frustratingly often. Equally frustrating was the fact that she had never sensed to slightest reciprocation of her feelings.
She had been looking too. Elizabeth based her life's work on her ability to read people and it was a skill that almost never failed her. In fact she prided to herself on being able to read others' intentions accurately and without imposing her own false hope instead.
She was rather depressingly used to being able to tamp down her libido after spending years working in a male dominated field.
Elizabeth sat back and smirked at her companion. "So, tell me about your day?"

"... actually I wasn't surprised at John's lack of prowess but was rather stunned that Ronon was such a horrible dancer." Teyla concluded with a flourish.
Elizabeth laughed so hard she had tears in her eyes. The two women had been passing time exchanging embarrassing anecdotes. Elizabeth's face actually hurt from laughing. Plus as a bonus she had enough blackmail material on her Chief military officer and chief scientist to keep them in line indefinitely. The good stuff never made it into the official reports. She would definitely have to get the real scoop from Teyla more often.
Elizabeth shivered and reached for her jacket. There was a bit of a chill in the air. Teyla hadn't brought her jacket to the conference room and was wearing a sleeveless Athosian tunic. It seemed to be Teyla's favorite top. Truth be told it was Elizabeth's favorite too.
If Elizabeth was chilly then Teyla had to be freezing.
"Does it seem cooler in here to you?" Elizabeth asked.
"Now that you mention it, yes," Teyla crossed her arms under her breasts and rubbed her hands up and down her bare arms.
Elizabeth tore her eyes away from the motion and a tapped her radio. She listened grimly to Rodney's status report then turned to Teyla.
"The environmental controls are fluctuating while Rodney and Radek work on the overall systems. Its nothing life threatening but its going to get progressively colder in here for a while."
Teyla nodded and put on what Elizabeth privately called her 'resolve face'.
"Would you like to wear my jacket?" Elizabeth offered.
Teyla shook her head. "I could not take your jacket," she demurred, "you need it."
"We could share it!" Elizabeth blurted. At Teyla's questioning look, Elizabeth stammered, "We should probably try to conserve body heat anyway. So we could drape it over both of our shoulders if we sit closer - umm, unless of course you wouldn't be comfortable...."
"It is kind of you to offer," Teyla interjected, moving from her chair to sit on the floor with her back propped against the wall.
"Perhaps we will both be more comfortable over here," Teyla said, motioning for Elizabeth to join her.
"Smooth, Dr. Weir," Elizabeth thought to herself, "really smooth." She took a deep breath and moved over to the floor.
Teyla held her arm out and Elizabeth curled into her warmth as she settled in next to her on the floor.
Elizabeth huddled closer and breathed deeply. Teyla smelled spicy and woodsy, it was comfortingly familiar and enticingly exotic all at once.
She felt a bit guilty for enjoying their predicament, even slightly. Elizabeth relaxed into Teyla's embrace.

Rodney gave them an ETA just before communications in this section out. The environmental controls were stable but they were still working to get all the emergency doors open. Still no clue as to what caused the lock down, just the reassurance that there was no danger to the city or it's inhabitants.
Elizabeth stifled a yawn as she curled into Teyla's warmth. It had been a long day and the forced inactivity was actually wearing her down more than a full blown crisis would have. Her eyelids were drooping and she was slumping, trying to stay at least semi upright. Teyla, bless her heart, suggest that they lay down and try to get some rest since it seemed like they would be waiting a lot longer.
They curled together, still using Elizabeth's jacket as a makeshift blanket. The floor was rather unforgiving and Teyla had scavenged the seat cushions from the desk chairs to pad the floor as much as possible.
Elizabeth was quite comfortable in spite of the cold air and the hard floor. She had been worried at first that she wouldn't be able to relax with the object of her infatuation (she refused to even think the word 'crush', she was a mature, adult woman, dammit!) nestled so intimately against her.
At least when the other woman managed to stay still long enough to nestle. Elizabeth saw many things when she looked at Teyla. Beauty, grace, poise, serenity. Not once had the she ever looked at the other woman and thought to herself "you know, I bet she a fidgeter."
Teyla would lay on her back, then move her arms like she had just grown them this morning. Then she would turn to her side, then she would jerk her leg. Then just as Elizabeth started to get comfortable enough to doze a bit, Teyla would flip around to her other side and futilely attempt to arrange her arm under head in the comfortable position.
Elizabeth sighed as the cycle started all over again and asked if Teyla was all right. Teyla froze like a deer in high beams, then sighed and sat up.
Elizabeth realized that she eye level with the other woman's bellybutton and casually moved up to a sitting position too.
"The laces on my top are too tight." Teyla explained with a touch of embarrassment. "My usual sleeping attire is much looser and I can't seem to relax."
Teyla indicated the laces that held her traditional top closed. The laces that crisscrossed in the front and drew Elizabeth's treacherous eyes to Teyla's cleavage. Elizabeth quickly averted her gaze when she realized that she was staring. Clearing her throat she intended to casually put forth the idea of Teyla loosening her top, for comforts sake.
What actually came out of her mouth was this -
"You may be more comfortable if you loosen your breasts -I mean your top," Elizabeth turned steadily redder, "I'm sorry, maybe you -"
Elizabeth was mortified. She stammered out another apology for her slip when she realized that Teyla had gone still and quiet.
'Don't look, don't look, ' she thought to herself as she turned and looked her friend in the eye.
Teyla smiled fondly at Elizabeth. "please do not be embarrassed. You have not offended me" the smile turned predatory and Teyla scooted closer and moved into Elizabeth's personal space, "Quite the opposite, in fact."
Elizabeth's eyes widened as Teyla fucking pounced. Possibly there was also a squeak but it was a dignified squeak.
Teyla kissed her passionately before pulling back and saying, “I have wanted this very much but I was unsure of your interest.”
“Well I am used to keeping a professional distance,” Elizabeth shrugged diffidently, “besides, I know how to play it cool.”
Teyla's smirk pretty much said “I call bullshit but I'm too polite to do so out loud.” So, of course, Elizabeth was obliged to derail her train of thought with well timed brush of fingertips across surprisingly ticklish ribs. She lean forward and began to lick and bite at her neck even as Teyla's fingers strayed under her uniform top and began to undo her pants.
It was still too chilly in the conference room to go very far but clothing was pushed aside enough to give way to exploring hands and lips. Eventually they collapsed against each other in a warm, sated and sleepy embrace.

Elizabeth stretched and opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Teyla gazing back at her with a contented smile. Elizabeth smiled back and surreptitiously wiped at her, thankfully, drool free chin.
"How do you feel?", Teyla asked.
"I feel wonderful," Elizabeth worried at her lip, "Are you okay with this?"
"Of course," Teyla reached out her hand and gently ran her fingers down her cheek.
"Then maybe we could do this again sometime?" Elizabeth grinned, "like maybe tonight?"
Teyla got a thoughtful look on her face. She was able to keep a straight face for all of ten seconds before a vibrant chuckle escaped her lips.
"Perhaps we could have dinner, in my quarters?" At Elizabeth's alarmed expression, Teyla hurriedly added, "What I mean is we could pick dinner up from the mess and eat in my quarters."
"I'd like that," Elizabeth replied. "Very much."
"Elizabeth!" Rodney's voice carried over the headset. Elizabeth picked it up and slipped it over her ear while responding.
"Go ahead."
"We're ready to open the doors," he replied.
Elizabeth chided playfully, "What took you so long?"
"I stopped for a bagel on the way," came the exasperated reply. Elizabeth could practically hear the eye roll.
"Well I appreciate you making time in you busy schedule," Elizabeth smothered and laugh. She and Teyla had composed themselves and straightened their clothing when the lights came back up to full intensity. The telltale sound of systems powering up accompanied the doors sliding open.
The two women emerged from the room to a small group of concerned med techs headed up by Carson. He checked both of them over with the practiced eye of a professional mother hen.
"How are you ladies feelin'? No ill effects I hope." He asked as he took Elizabeth's pulse. She shared a conspiratorial look with Teyla before responding.
"We're good."
