I suspect St. John Vianney spoke to St. Philomena about his concerns about the promotion and she took care of things for him. ;) I can just imagine the conversation.
SJV: Philomena, remember how hard I looked to find a parish priest saint?
SP: Yes, you were pretty discouraged when you didn't find one.
SJV: You know what they're planning to do? Give me a promotion so I won't just be patron of parish priests but all priests!
SP: Oh, that's too bad.
SJV: You'd think they could have let the parish priests have one patron just for them.
SP: As hard as parish priests work, you'd think they could have one advocate just for them.
SJV: Now, Philomena, I need you to be my little wonderworker again.
SP: Oh, you want me to stop this? That's going to be difficult.
SJV: You've never let me down.
(St. Philomena leaves for a short time and then returns.)
SP: You're back to being just a parish priest patron.
SJV: Story of my life. *winks* Thanks, Phil.
