Choir was exciting, not least because the number of men equaled the number of women. One of the men at practice was a 15 year old who a few years ago had one of the most beautiful soprano voices I have ever heard. He hasn't lost his ability to hear and reproduce pitches. We teased him that we'd start off with something REAAAAAALLLY hard and gave him the bass part of the Taize "Veni Sancte Spiritus." It looks like I am singing the verses for that because our normal soloist's husband is going to be received into the Church at Easter Vigil and we've banned her from the choir loft for the evening ;) Since we're also doing "Christus Resurrexit," it looks like I'll have double duty that night. We haven't banned her from the choir loft for Holy Thursday, so she can still sing "Stay with Me." :) I was pleasantly surprised at how well everyone remembered "Easter Anthem." Having plebeian tastes, I look forward to these Taize pieces and Mass of Creation (hopefully with trumpet) for Easter.

I've decided that next year I am going to put a few Latin mottoes around my classroom such as "Divida et impera" and "repetitio est mater studiorum" and "festina lente." I'm already teaching my students the meaning of the phrase "Festina lente": When you recite your lines too fast during play practice you lose time because Mrs. H makes you repeat them.
